Testing the Cycle Powered Cinema concept this Saturday, and you’re invited

This Saturday night, at about 9:30, or whenever it starts to get dark, some friends and I are going to get together on the banks of the Huron, behind the new VG Kids building, and test out the Cycle Powered Cinema concept. And, you’re invited. There could be glitches, as we’ve yet to attempt the [...]

The Shadow Shuttle

This evening, I got confirmation from the good folks at Big Ten Burrito that they are on-board for this summer’s Shadow Art Fair. They’ll be donating two of their BTB party busses, and the vegetable oil that they run on. All we have to do is pay their drivers for their time, which I’m confident [...]

Shadow Art Fair entertainment update

As I may have mentioned earlier, we’re trying something new for the next Shadow Art Fair, which is scheduled to take place on July 10. Instead of just having events at the Corner Brewery, we’re planning on having interesting things taking place at four different venues around Ypsilanti. I don’t want to give too much [...]

Cycle Powered Cinema, donations now accepted

The plan to show live, people-powered movies in Ypsilanti’s Riverside Park is still alive and well. A recent Cycle Powered Cinema volunteer meeting drew about a dozen people, and I think we made some pretty good progress. Following are some brief notes on where we are now, and where we hope to be by the [...]

Shadow Art Fair: July 10

I just got word from a friend that the Metro Times has named the Shadow Art Fair the area’s best Indie Craft Fair. Here, I’m told, is what they had to say:

Best Indie Craft Fair
Shadow Art Fair
This DIY craft fest of “stuff that people make” has run since 2005, and now draws thousands of visitors [...]

I’ve finally earned a place in the Hitler Downfall meme

I was alerted to the existence of this footage earlier tonight, upon arriving home from work. Linette took me into her office and showed it to me, but was reluctant to tell me who the responsible party was. She eventually gave up our mutual friend Eric Lagergren, though…
Thank you, Eric, for making history come alive [...]

Brandon Zwagerman on Mittenfest IV

Brandon Zwagerman doesn’t live here anymore. But he stays connected to the local music scene through Mittenfest, an annual winter showcase of Michigan bands, which he organizes from his home in New York. This year’s Mittenfest, to be held at the Elbow Room in Ypsilanti beginning New Year’s Eve, spans 4-days, and involves 40-bands. Following [...]
