As you might remember, before being elected President of the United States, Donald Trump told voters that, if we were to put him in the White House, he’d immediately be rolling out a health care plan that would “take care of everybody.” He refused to give any details at the time, but, as he told Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes, “Everybody,” under his plan, was “going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.” That, of course, never happened. Not only did Donald Trump never roll out the “terrific,” “phenomenal” and “fantastic” health care plan, like he’d repeatedly promised, but millions lost their health insurance during his first term, as he and Republicans sought to undercut the Affordable Care Act, eliminate protections for those with preexisting conditions, etc. And, now, as we head into the final weeks of his reelection campaign, he’s at it again, making promises about health care that we know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, he never intends to keep.
With two reputable polls showing Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by more than 20 points with voters 65 and older, the President did something unprecedented today. Like the snake oil salesman that he is, Donald Trump, standing in front of a green screen, took to Twitter to tell America’s seniors that they’d be receiving an “incredible” new “cure” for COVID-19. “You’re gonna’ get the same medicine (I got), and you’re gonna’ get it free,” he told America’s seniors. And, he said, it would be coming “soon.” Biden, he told them, wouldn’t do this for them. Only he could save their lives, and at absolutely “no charge”! Even by Trump’s standards, it was despicable.
Just remember, when he says, “Everybody’s going to be taken care of,” he’s said that before. And never forget, over 210,000 Americans have already died on his watch. And, for god’s sake, vote as though your life depends on it. There is one thing I know to be true, and that’s that Donald Trump will not be mailing a miracle cure to every American senior free-of-charge.
The reason it looks so weird, I think, is that he's laying down on the green screen, being shot from above. https://t.co/4zDQ9ERoRQ

It’s also worth noting that the “cure” Trump talks about, which he received at Walter Reed last week — a cocktail of monoclonal antibodies developed by the pharmaceutical company Regeneron — was made with cells derived from fetal tissue, something which he had previously said that he was against.
I wasn’t going to post tonight, but then I saw this new ad put out by Republican Voters Against Trump featuring retired General Michael Hayden, and I felt compelled to share it, in hopes that a few of you might want to pass it along to your Trump supporting friends and relatives. Yes, there’s part of me that wishes we’d nominated someone farther to the left, who Republicans wouldn’t feel so comfortable getting behind, but it does my heart good to see life-long conservatives like Hayden coming out, doing the right thing, putting country before party, and declaring that they’ll be casting their ballots not for the candidate who will allow them to pay less in taxes, or give them the judges that they want, but the one who will bring dignity back to the office of president, reestablish our position of leadership on the global stage, and end the rampant criminality of the last four years. I’m proud to live in a country where there are people like General Hayden, Olivia Troye, Elizabeth Neumann, Bill Kristol, and Cindy McCain, who have the character to stand up and say something, knowing that doing so will bring the ire of many they once considered friends. One hopes, over the course of the next 28 days, we see even more people making the leap, in hopes of getting on the right side of history. Yes, it would have been more impactful had they joined us several years ago, but I’m happy to welcome them to the side of light.
NEW AD: Former Director of the CIA under Bush @GenMhayden: "If there is another term for Trump, I don't know what happens to America."
He's supporting @JoeBiden.

Donald Trump, we were told late last week, had been diagnosed with COVID-19. Being the President of the United States of America, he received the best treatment available on earth. Today, as you can see in this video, he’s telling people that, because he survived the disease, they should not fear COVID. “Don’t be afraid of it,” Trump says of the infectious respiratory disease that has already killed 215,032 Americans, including my friend Monica Echeverri Casarez. “You’re gonna’ beat it,” he continues, apparently oblivious to the fact that not everyone who contributes their $750 a year in taxes, has the ability to be airlifted free-of-charge to a private wing of Walter Reed military hospital, and receive experimental antibody treatments.

Donald Trump is essentially telling the American people that they should not fear COVID, but instead embrace it. Meanwhile, in the real world, the CDC is forecasting that 2,700 to 8,600 new COVID-19 deaths will be reported in America during the week ending October 24. But yet there he stands, in front of the American people — over 2.3 million of whom have lost their health insurance during his presidency — gasping for air, and declaring, “You’re gonna’ beat it.” The truth is, they’re not. Even those of us still lucky enough to have health insurance, don’t have access to the experimental antibody treatments that Donald Trump claims will save us all. That’s just a fact.
Many of us have joked on this site in the past about Donald Trump being the leader of a death cult. Seeing him standing there, however, telling people not to fear a deadly, contagious disease, kind of takes the humor out of it… Speaking of which, if someone could add the opening notes to “Don’t Fear the Reaper” before Trump starts speaking in the above video, I’d appreciate it.
Trump should have just sung Don't Fear the Reaper. https://t.co/Nh2J201HJl

[Trump’s dramatic reinterpretation of “Don’t Fear the Reaper” reminds me of William Shatner’s cover of “Rocket Man.”]
For what it’s worth, as long as we’re talking about Americans facing COVID without insurance, here’s an interesting fact from today’s New York Times. “Independent estimates suggest that under Biden’s plan,” they report, “15 million to 20 million Americans would gain health insurance. And premiums would fall sharply, especially for middle-class families.” And here’s a useful little graphic outlining the health care plans of both candidates.
If you really want a shot at “beating” COVID-19, you know who you have to vote for, right?
