A few days after calling America’s senior citizens his “favorite people,” Donald Trump mocks the elderly

With Joe Biden leading Donald Trump among seniors by more than 20 points in the polls, the President of the United States did something both bold and desperate last week, releasing a bizarre green screen video of himself promising those over 65 that, if he were to be reelected, he would give them all access to the COVID-19 “cure” free-of-charge… something which, he said, Joe Biden would never do. [note: There is no COVID-19 cure.] At the time, Donald Trump told America’s senior citizens that he was going to do this because they were his “favorite people in the world.” Well, today he was back to mocking them, reminding us all once again why it is that Biden is beating him by more than 20 points with America’s senior citizens.

There are other more important things to talk about today, like the fact that Attorney General William Barr’s so-called “unmasking” probe into whether federal officials during the Obama administration had illegally requested the identities of individuals whose names had been redacted in intelligence reports concerning Russian election interference just concluded without finding any wrongdoing, much to the chagrin of conspiracy theorists everywhere. I thought it best to focus on this new tweet of Trump’s, though, as I suspect it might help shift a few more votes than a protracted discussion with our resident conspiracy theorists about how, despite what we learned today, they still think several Obama administration officials are headed to jail for violating the constitutional rights on Trump’s criminal associates like Michael Flynn. So, with that in mind, please be sure to share this with your elderly relatives who have yet to vote.

Donald Trump also retweeted some conspiracy theory bullshit today about the CIA moving Osama bin Laden from Iran to Pakistan, so that Obama could get the “trophy kill.” In more normal times, something like this would be huge news.

Trump’s tweet reflects very accurately the complete disregard he and his moronic cultist supporters have toward seniors. It explains why he doesn’t see their lives as worth saving from the pandemic.

That’s what the Trunpanzees here have expressed as well. EOS points out over and over that the majority of the people the pandemic is killing are seniors.

It’s Democratic Governors who are killing the nursing home residents.

Unmasking is not illegal. However, the crimes committed by former administration officials will not go unpunished. They are waiting until after Trump gets re-elected so as not to be accused of using the indictments for political advantage.

Some will roll their eyes at news DOJ has quietly ended its “unmasking” review without criminal charges, but it remains shocking that a US president and his allies in opinion media have, without evidence, endlessly accused his predecessor of crimes.

In the end, it was a lie.

Slate: “Trump-Fueled DOJ Probe Into Obama “Unmasking” Conspiracy Reportedly Comes Up Empty”

In the alternate universe far, far from our own, Donald Trump isn’t a grifter, but a paragon of integrity undone by ordinary, but malicious American bureaucrats at the behest of a previously assiduously norm-following American president that suddenly went berserk and tried to take down a political rival. As president, Trump has, obviously, tried to push this fiction with mind-numbing results, enlisting his mouth, Twitter account, sundry self-serving internet hucksters and hangers-on, the Republican Party writ large, and various organs of the American government to try to pass this finger-paint rendering of reality off as a historical document. One of Trump’s greatest ally-pawns in this attempted whitewash has been Attorney General Bill Barr. Need a strategic investigation? A timely exoneration? A political insinuation under the guise of law and order? How about a legal or ethical equivalence? For all of the above, Barr’s your guy. And Trump has called on him over and over again.

But reality is reality and Trump is still Trump. And we got yet another reminder of that fact when the Washington Post reported Tuesday that the “unmasking probe” Barr commissioned to root around in the Obama-era decision-making process that led to the Russia investigation basically came up with nothing untoward. In the face of the damning—but somehow not politically fatal—revelations of the Mueller report, Trump and his allies began repurposing the fact that he was somehow still president as evidence of not only his innocence but a grand, sinister conspiracy against him. Enter the accusation of “unmasking,” a not-out-of-the ordinary process where, when conducted in good faith, government officials request names be unredacted in order to gain more insight into intelligence gathered about American citizens in foreign intelligence reports. U.S. Attorney John Bash, which Barr entrusted with the review—which overlapped other investigations—found no “substantive wrongdoing,” the Post reports. Bash will not file any charges and will not even issue a public report of the findings. Bash announced last week he was resigning from the Department of Justice and has since left his post.

“The department—both under Barr and Trump’s previous attorney general, Jeff Sessions—has repeatedly turned to U.S. attorneys across the country to investigate matters of Republican concern, distressing current and former Justice Department officials, who fear that department leaders are repeatedly caving to Trump’s pressure to benefit his allies and target those he perceives as political enemies,” the Post notes. “Bash’s team was focused not just on unmasking, but also on whether Obama-era officials provided information to reporters, according to people familiar with the probe, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive investigation. But the findings ultimately turned over to Barr fell short of what Trump and others might have hoped, and the attorney general’s office elected not to release them publicly, the people familiar with the matter said. The Washington Post was unable to review the full results of what Bash found.”

I voted early. The turnout for early and absentee voting is unprecedented. I’m going to spend poll day helping some others get to the poll. I have personally helped at least four people get registered and vote at my workplace who otherwise haven’t really voted before. All votes cast for Democrats. I’ve also personally become a union rep for our school union this last year and helped to interview and endorse local school board candidates for our district. Strong Dems who will almost certainly win and tilt the balance of our local district very much left.

I don’t say this to brag but to illustrate that one favor DJT has done is to push even engaged people like me to make an extra effort. He’s got people involved who otherwise sat on the sidelines. There are lots of people like me in 2020. People who are going the extra mile. Trump and the GOP in the senate are probably well fucked.

“My god, you’ve unmasked the criminals in the Trump administration!” has to have been one of the stupidest conspiracy theories of all time. They aren’t concerned with Flynn’s criminality, but with the fact that he was exposed. And we, the rational people of America, have to treat the charge like it’s legitimate. There are still people who believe Trump when, four years into his presidency, he tells them that Hillary Clinton and other members of the Obama administration are going to jail. That should tell you everything you need to know about the staggering gullibility of the right in this country. If they really believe that Trump’s Justice Department would not have brought charges against Clinton and company when the Republicans held the White House, House and Senate, but instead decided to wait for Trump’s second term, they are absolutely hopeless. He lives in a red state where there has been a lot of voter disenfranchisement of people of color, particularly men of color through laws that prevent felons from voting unless they jump through a crazy number of hoops to do so. He was convicted of marijuana possession as a young man and because of that, he has never registered to vote. He always would say that it was because his vote didn’t matter anyway. But he has seen how Republicans work to keep people from voting that that convinced him. If his vote wasn’t powerful, they wouldn’t be doing that. He has registered to vote now! And he is voting for Biden but more importantly on those down-ticket races. Yay!

The idea that the GOP care about the appearance of using ANYTHING for political advantage is truly laughable. Where they have won it is ALWAYS because of Machiavallian moves. Their strength is that they don’t care how things look or impact to the country; they care about winning only. It is the one thing about Trump that feels classically Republican to me; otherwise he’s just a very skilled populist– conspiracy theories and all.

I am assuming #unmaskgate it is an integral part of #russiahoaxgate. Since I am a #russiahoaxgate conspiracy theorist I will admit I was very surprised to find out that supposed illegal unmasking was somehow integral to my conspiracy theory. News articles everywhere seem to be suggesting that my conspiracy theory just collapsed in embarrassing fashion. EOS:

Clinton paid for the dossier. It was the stuff normally printed in tabloids. Steele leaked it to the press. Knowing that the court would not approve of spying on Trump’s campaign based on material supplied by his opponent, the intelligence agencies lied by omission and claimed that it was obtained from the press. Was the crap in the dossier the only material presented? No, but it was a substantial part. Once they got the the warrant to surveil Carter Page, there was a series of requests by Obama officials to unmask names of persons redacted on the documents. The redacted documents were leaked to the press at an alarming rate. All the information gathered subsequent to the warrant is inadmissible in court because the warrant wasn’t obtained legally.

It’s no big deal so long as you think its OK for the executive branch to use intelligence agencies to gather information about opposing candidates with the intent on derailing their campaigns. It’s really not surprising coming from an administration that used the IRS for targeted attacks on right wing political groups. It’s Ok if you think the Secretary of State should trade policy decisions for contributions to her foundation. It’s OK if you think a cabinet member should be questioned by the FBI while not under oath, with no recording being made, with pardons given to many of her subordinates and when much evidence is found to be indicative of numerous laws being violated, and then to have the head of the FBI (not the Justice department) announce that there will be no indictments because he didn’t feel there was any intent to break the law. Even though intent is not the particular necessity for indictment, merely gross negligence. And surely it must be OK to destroy computer records after the FBI requested them to be turned over, to smash multiple phones with a hammer, and to wipe the hard drives clean with sophisticated technology.

No, what we should focus all our intention on is the supposition that Russians may have played a role in releasing genuine emails sent by the Clinton campaign. And somehow we must find a way to link Trump as the driving force behind it all. Never mind the fact that our own country is dirty from interfering with elections in other sovereign nations for at least the last 75 years. But lets appoint a few more special prosecutors and keep up a constant stream of unsubstantiated accusations about collusion and lets get the mainstream media to report non-stop negativity about our current president. Because we’re already fatigued and are sick and tired of hearing about this election and no one has the stamina to investigate Hillary any more.

Except the sad fact is that government works for us. And if we let the real crimes fall by the wayside without demanding former officials to be held accountable, then we have lost the last chance for effective government. You can tell your kids that we once had the opportunity to hold government accountable, but you preferred to spend your leisure time insulting anonymous people on the Internet. You might have realized they deserved to be tried and convicted, but you couldn’t care less. You didn’t want a nation ruled by law, but a government that would give you all the free stuff you wanted until you woke up one day and the well had dried up and you no longer had any effective voice to rein in an elite class of bureaucrats who were in it for themselves all along.

Thanks for hunting those mentions of “unmasking” down. My claim is not that “unmasking” was never discussed here. I am asking how the finding that there was no illegal unmasking collapses the so-called “conspiracy theories” either HW, EOS , or FF holds. In order to answer that you would need to have an understanding of the so-called conspiracy theory we hold AND you would need to have an understanding of the specific role illegal unmasking played within our theories. Correct? Yes or no? I am only speaking for myself but I felt zero disappointment in reading that there was a finding of no illegal unmasking. I think it would be interesting to hear from HW and EOS. Surely you are aware of the idea that meaning changes with changes of context , no? Anyway, it is weird if you to think you are scoring points. I guess you are kinda desperate for points huh?

Who wants to bet that Vague Guy will never even come close to attempting to answer my actual relevant questions? I will ask it again: What role does/did illegal unmasking play in the supposed conspiracy theories held by FF, HW and EOS? Explain it Vague Guy. Columbo says I should feel embarrassed but I don’t. Explain why I should, Vague Guy.

I have no interest in fighting with anyone on this site. You had said that none of our local conspiracy theorists had raised a fuss about “unmasking,” with the inference being that Mark had made up that Trump’s followers had ever cared. I shared a few examples of those same people going on and on about how the unmasking scandal was going to bring Biden and others down. It did not. It was a non scandal ginned up by Devin Nunes and others to distract from the very real scandals of the Trump administration.

No. I didn’t exactly say that. I would even say I care that so many people were making unmasking requests on Flynn. I find it interesting. It does not need to be illegal inorder to be interesting. The fact that I care about it and find it interesting should not be indicative of me hinging anything my theories on unmasking as the vehicle of wrongdoing.

I try to follow what I call #russiahoaxgate. I would estimate that the unmasking aspect accounts for .1% of the potential scandal. Less than .1% if you are specifically talking about Flynn. Here is a prediction. If they try to bring anybody down it will be around Flynn. There are some interesting things about Flynn and unmasking timing, illegal or not. We will need to wait to see how it unfolds. In the mean time the anti conspiracy theory ColuMbo-types would be doing themselves a favor by getting a fucking clue.

This 1A episode is worth a listen for those inclined to dismiss Q as no big deal. Most interesting is how they hijacked the movements trying to end sex trafficking and child sexual abuse and have effectively hamstrung those movements from being effective. Because they care about kids…

Service Industry Workers of the Ann Arbor Area (SIWA3) is hosting a march demanding safety for service workers on Saturday, October 24th in Ann Arbor. In particular, we are making the following demands:
    1. Better COVID health and safety protocols.
    2. Workplaces that are free from discrimination and harassment.
    3. The right for workers to refuse service when we don’t feel safe.
    4. That owners and management do not steal wages or labor from workers.
Workers in our industry have lacked necessary protections for far too long. The COVID-19 pandemic has only highlighted just how vulnerable we are when faced with greedy owners and customers who lack concern for the health and safety of workers. Now is the time to take a stand and demand what is rightfully ours! We deserve to feel safe in our workplaces!
Join us at 5:00pm on 10/24 in the Diag at U of M. We will begin the event with speakers on the steps of the library, then we will march through the closed streets downtown where diners will be enjoying their evening meals and drinks during the return of Big Ten Football!
Please make sure to wear a mask and practice social distancing!

HW– DO SOME RESEARCH! The Clinton Foundation does fund many organizations who combat human trafficking. That is well within their mission. They don’t run anything other than a funding mechanism relating to human trafficking. The woman interviewed works for POLARIS, an independent entity with highest ratings on Charity Navigator etc. She claims QANON is distorting the facts around the issue of human trafficking and impeding efforts. Does that concern you at all? Or like EOS, do you not actually care about children, only your political agenda?
PS Casting doubt (guilt by association) on legit orgs prices nothing. Did you ever notice Q never proves their claims at all?

It’s a dangerous and destructive scam you are engaged with. Later in the episode (different Q expert who definitely reads Q posts) they say it takes psychological interventions to get people to leave the Q cult. We all know you need help.

The US has a travel advisory against travel to the Bahamas because of the level of Covid infections in the country. The Bahamas population is slightly larger than Washtenaw County and yet they have fewer death, hospitalizations, and confirmed infections than Washtenaw County. By extension, the US should be issuing a travel advisory for Washtenaw County.
Lynne, you should rethink your travel plans.

There are two separate interviews on this podcast of Katie Helper. For us free speech supporters the second interview with Aron Matte is quit interesting. They even have a real time example of corporate censorship. At about 1:38:00 they start talking about the censorship of the NYPost Hunter Biden story. The first interview is also an interesting discussion of the Supreme Court.

‘I am a young, vibrant man.’’ Donald Trump, fooling no one.

    The Emperor has no clothes.

The focus on age that is seated in cognitive decline or any health issues is just political gamesmanship. The reason the age of these candidates matter is that both of them are deeply out of touch with the POV of young people facing a future of multi-faceted existential risks and a will towards deep systemic change. At least Biden hires qualified, young, diverse experts and listens to them, even when overly dismissive of young activists. His policies are by far the most liberal of any previous presidential nominee ever. His housing policy is brilliant and I am certain he had nothing to do with it.

Unfortunately ageism, like all ‘isms’ gets more political play than policy.

Wobblie— does the Joe Biden/Hunter Biden Ukraine influence peddling and self dealing mean you won’t vote for Biden over Trump in this election?

PS I listened to your podcast while cleaning. The Syria thing was the better story. On Biden there is just an unconfirmed meeting between Biden sr and Burisma that Biden has denied but that his campaign is making equivocations on. Otherwise all of this was covered in the New Yorker piece a year ago. Does an unconfirmed meeting surprise and outrage you? I guess I expect that kind of stuff in international dealings. Lord knows I’ve seen enough idiot sons with bad habits get plum positions via their powerful parent. It’s gross. I said so a year ago. But not disqualifying. At least to me.

What was the point of sharing this?

Ah the censorship! So an unnamed shop keeper in Delaware produces a laptop that may or may not be Hunter Biden’s that Biden just never picked up from the shop and that laptop not only contains the emails in question but sex tapes and the Post does not bother to confirm that a meeting ever took place or the origins of the laptop. And your expert podcasters laugh at the idea that the laptop evidence might have been Russian disinformation?!! Have you met Russia? And you are upset that FB et al chose to block that information from their venues?! They are private entities and can block whatever the fuck they want. Why do you and your podcasters act like this is government censorship? Show proof or shut up. You and your podcasters are at least as corrupted as Biden, which says a lot.

    Social media censorship.

Maybe. If they choose that route then they might lose their status as a mere platform and all of the protections it affords them. There is a gray area. I am only shedding light on your comment that they can censor whatever they want because they are a private entity. Not untrue, but such a decision potentially comes with consequences.
