media consolidation

Almost everyone in the US seems to think that increasing media consolidation is a bad idea, but, in spite of this, the FCC seems hell bent on further relaxing the rules.

More on media consolidation, including a useful timeline of media regulation legislation can be found at Bill Moyer’s Journal.

holiday penis spam

I get a lot of unsolicited email. For the most part, it’s from folks who seem genuinely concerned about the size of my penis. I hadn’t until today, however, received an email about my penis that was holiday themed. The email, from a gentleman who identified himself as Thorsten Bemis, was simple, and direct. Here it is:

Your dick won’t fit down in chimney, after you take this incredible medicine!

I guess I’d never thought about it before, but I really don’t want my penis to go down a chimney. If it were just a magic salve that would somehow keep my penis from going down chimneys, I might be persuaded to shell out a few bucks. (Better safe than sorry.) But I don’t know that I’d want to take “incredible medicine” that would swell my penis to a volume that couldn’t be sucked into the giant, gaping mouth of an industrial chimney on the off chance that it may one day save my life. It might also be true that I could one day be in a situation where I could save my own life with a 20-foot length of rope. That doesn’t mean that I should set out to stretch my penis another 18 feet. It just doesn’t make sense.

something’s still the matter with kansas

My friend Eric just sent this to me. A guy he knows in Lawrence, Kansas just snapped it and sent it to him. I’m told that this particular church misspells stuff all the time. In this particular case, I think they may have invented a new word by mashing-up “virgin” and “vagina.” It seems like maybe there should be a special word for that, doesn’t it? Wouldn’t it be useful, say, in telling the story of the immaculate conception?

huckabee’s kid

Did Huckabee’s kid really hang a dog, slit its throat and stone it to death? It might be true. Regardless, my guess is that Giuliani’s people are behind the story getting out to the press. Huckabee was surging, and Rove couldn’t have that. (Remember what Rove did to McCain in 2000?) Yup, things are going to get a lot uglier as we get closer to the Iowa caucus.

update on the “shop ypsi for the holidays” campaign

I haven’t talked with many of our retailers since the campaign launched, but my sense is that it’s had a positive impact on business. Word on the street is that sales are slightly better than last year at this time, which, given the state of the Michigan economy, is probably better than most people would have expected… At any rate, if you haven’t completed your holiday shopping yet, I’d ask that you check out our local merchants and give them a shot. And, if you’ve already done your shopping, and still feel like helping out your local merchants, I’d ask that you pick up some of our of Shop Ypsi brochures and distribute them at work, to your friends, etc. At last count, I think we still had about 500 copies left. They’re behind the counter at Caf
