Our racist president, being a racist, says something racist

I didn’t want to write about Donald Trump’s most recent racist statements, as, to be honest, I didn’t see as how any good would come of it. It was just a week or so ago that we were talking about how he’d told four freshman Congresswomen of color to “go back” to the “crime infested” countries they come from, apparently unaware that three of them were actually born in the United States, and I didn’t really think that there was any new territory to cover with this most recent episode of racism, as terrible as it was. I mean, it’s absolutely unconscionable that Donald Trump, in an online attack against Congressman Elijah Cummings, would call Baltimore “a disgusting rat and rodent infested mess” that “no human being” would want to live in, but we already knew that Donald Trump was a vile racist. We knew it in the ’70s, when he refused to rent to black tenants in New York. And we knew it just after he became president, and said that there were “some very fine people” among the white nationalists marching in Charlottesville, instead of condemning them across the board. There’s nothing left to be debated. It’s a fact. The President of the United States is a racist. And apparently that’s OK with 40-some percent of Americans. And I just don’t see how it helps to spend my time chronicling each instance of racism, as doing so clearly isn’t going change anyone’s mind. [I’m convinced that he could say the n-word now, and not lose a single supporter.]

Oh, and before anyone feels inspired to step up and make the case as to why Donald Trump shouldn’t be considered a racist, here’s something to think about… These are the elected officials that our president has personally attacked using the word “infested.” Do you really think it’s just a coincidence that none of them are white? I mean, why is it that he calls Cummings’ district “a disgusting rat and rodent infested mess” that “no human being” would want to live in, when, as former Republican Bill Kristol pointed out today, Mitch McConnell’s state of Kentucky has a poverty rate of 17.2%, which is higher than that in Cummings’ district… which, by the way, also includes one of America’s finest research institutions, Johns Hopkins.

So, as angry as it made me, I wasn’t going to write about the attacks against Cummings. I was, instead, going to spend my evening writing about the case of Francisco Galicia, and American-born teenager who was just held in detention for almost one month by U.S. border agents because he couldn’t produce his citizenship papers. [Galicia, it’s being reported, lost 26 pounds over the 23 days he was held prisoner.] But then it occurred to me how much I loved Baltimore, and how I’d taken a photo the last time that I was there that might make for an appropriate response to our President… The following photo was taken at The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum.

The people of Baltimore, I’m happy to report, don’t give a shit what Donald Trump has to say, as least as evidenced by the op-ed in yesterday’s Baltimore Sun titled, “Better to have a few rats than to be one.” Here’s a clip.

…In pointing to the 7th, the president wasn’t hoping his supporters would recognize landmarks like Johns Hopkins Hospital, perhaps the nation’s leading medical center. He wasn’t conjuring images of the U.S. Social Security Administration, where they write the checks that so many retired and disabled Americans depend upon. It wasn’t about the beauty of the Inner Harbor or the proud history of Fort McHenry. And it surely wasn’t about the economic standing of a district where the median income is actually above the national average. No, he was returning to an old standby of attacking an African American lawmaker from a majority black district on the most emotional and bigoted of arguments. It was only surprising that there wasn’t room for a few classic phrases like “you people” or “welfare queens” or “crime-ridden ghettos” or a suggestion that the congressman “go back” to where he came from.

…Finally, while we would not sink to name-calling in the Trumpian manner — or ruefully point out that he failed to spell the congressman’s name correctly (it’s Cummings, not Cumming) — we would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are “good people” among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.

I need to stop for the night, but here are two videos that I’d like for you to watch.

In this first one, CNN’s Victor Blackwell, who was born and raised in Baltimore, addresses Donald Trump’s racist comments directly.

And, in this second one, Cris Wallace confronts White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, who also serves as Trump’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget, on the President’s use of the term “infested” when talking about the home districts of elected officials of color.

Oh, and by the way, the President’s son-in-law, Jared Kusher owns almost 9,000 rental units across 17 complexes in Baltimore County, many of which are in disrepair and infested with mice.

One last thing… Back in 2015, when private citizen Trump last attacked Baltimore, he blamed Barack Obama, the President of the United States, for the city’s troubles, and demanded that he personally go to Baltimore to set things straight. Why is it that, when Obama was President, Baltimore was his problem, but now it’s not Trump’s problem? Why is Baltimore’s “infestation” now solely the fault of Elijah Cummings? And why isn’t Donald “I alone can fix it” Trump on a plane right now, marshaling the resources to fix what Obama could not? I find that curious (and racist, and vile, and, sadly, completely predictable).

Does Baltimore have higher than average poverty rates?

Does Baltimore have higher than average crime rates?

Does Johns Hopkins presence help to keep poverty rates and crime lower in the district?

Did Trump say Baltimore is infested with the wrong sorts of people? Or does he say Baltimore is infested rats?

Does Baltimore have higher than average rat population?

“R word, R word, R word…Now that we have a narrative we can’t let it go.”

How is the last R-word narrative panning out for us? We shouldn’t let go of that other narrative yet should we? Should we? I think we should keep it around a little bit longer because it is turning out to be hilarious.

Baltimore is a great town. Trump is an asshole.

I get pushing back against a critic, but why not simply attack the critic? Why go to the extra step of insulting an entire town and the people who live there? Why use the word “infestation” so often in reference to black people, black areas and immigrants? It just all seems unnecessary and a poor way to increase support in many parts of the country.

I guess it plays out well in some places, though.

I don’t like that Trump used generalization to say a whole city is bad but poverty, rodents and crime are definitely problems in Baltimore, statistically, relative to other cities. Is Trump being racist or is he”punching back” by communicating an uncomfortable truth about poverty, rodent and crime problems within Baltimore?

Frankly, I would be horrified if any politician of any party said what he did. I fail to see how his statements will have any positive impact on the lives of people in Baltimore. I can see how they might be used to justify Baltimore being denied help to solve the problems there. I am sure that other people see it differently, but that’s my opinion.

To be truthful, I found Obama’s statement about God and guns in rural America to be true, but inappropriately divisive coming from a person of his position (or what would become his position.)

We need less partisanship and more of a focus on real solutions. So far, Trump has offered no solutions.

Here’s why he’s targeting Cummings. It’s important to the story.

What provoked Trump’s attacks on Cummings? New facts about crime or poverty in Baltimore? Nope. It was that Cummings’ committee voted to subpoena work-related texts and emails on personal accounts by WH officials, including Ivanka and Jared.

I thought Trump was responding to the alleged “bullying”, by Cummings, of border patrol agents during a meeting/ hearing? Cummings is throwing out a lot of accusations that may or may not be true. Trump threw back crime, poverty, and rodent facts in Baltimore. Look up video if you want more info.

My understanding is that Trump was responding to Cummings questioning a DHS chief on how good of a job he was doing on the border. It seems very odd to try to explain Trump’s tweets as anything other than a symmetrical and natural response to Cummings vague accusations without evidence. It was practically identified, as such, by Trump from the beginning.

If a kindergartner, who had no capacity to do harm to me, said “you need to be killed”, I would explain to the child why irresponsible use of words is not a good idea. May I ask: Was it funny to you when another (?) commenter said something similar in a non-rhyming form?

My last question: You don’t listen to rap or read much poetry do you? I ask because rap is filled with brilliant battles and put downs and this is extremely corny and unsophisticated rhyming.

I am not going to argue with you about what is funny or art to you but beyond knowing what is funny to you I don’t think you know much of anything. Much less do you have access to what somebody else’s state-of mind is over the Internet. Regarding “lighten up”: One of the more selfish reasons I visit this site is because I find so much of the failures of reasoning and poor self awareness on display here to be hilarious. It is like watching Mr. Bean pack up for his vacation.

    Frosted Flakes, for goodness sakes
Don’t be talking about his outrage

He thinks my rhyme ain’t funny
He thinks my rhyme ain’t clever
But does he ever drop rhymes?
    No, this honky never

    Frosted knows rappers
    Flakes knows rockers
He’s the albino MC in the 52″ Dockers

    Y’all don’t read much verse
    Or kick much rap
    You wouldn’t know sophisticated
You pick the corny from your crap

I don’t know what kinda drug he on
He got his homepage on the Qanon

    He’s down with Drump
    Defending Warlord’s rump
They Meetup in mom’s basement for the meatloaf and a pump

    An then they chillin
Cold Zima on the futon, they ain’t illin

    They battle brilliant
    On fornite they killin it

    Don’t like it corny
    Midget porn makes em horny
They regret the day that AOC was borny

    Now that’s my rhyme
    I’m outta time
Next time maybe we can battle it in mime

    If you can keep up
    Too slow for my paces
And like the Donald you’re both motherfucking racists

Baltimore has one of the highest crime rates in the nation and has rat problem. Every major city in the nation has crime problems and nearly all are poorly managed. All of these cities have serious problems and they are all run by Democrats and have been for as long as I can remember. No one is willing to admit that Democratic policies are ruining our cities. Keep calling him a racist, take comments out of context and misinterpret them. Racist, racist, racist, collusion, collusion, obstruction, obstruction…

And the sheeple never stop and consider that their party is destroying our nation. They get all worked up emotionally to hate the president, and Antifa will riot in the streets and tear up the infrastructure with no repercussions. But who is working to make things better? Free college, free housing, free health care, guaranteed income – who will work to pay for these programs? Who is stupid enough to think free college for everyone will be beneficial for anyone? What type of naivity makes one think unlimited health care for all will sustain quality care for anyone? Is there anyone who believes Mark was being 100% truthful when he wrote this post?

I was wrong. You are a seriously good rapper. I was sold on how fresh your rhymes were when you started out with the line “for goodness sakes”. When I heard “for goodness sakes” I knew it was over for me….LOL…Fresh stuff.

I do have a couple of major concerns. Now that I recognize you as a legit rapper maybe you could answer a few questions about your craft?

Some of your poetry seems to dabble in imagery that might be interpreted be as coming from a homophobic point of view. For example you attempt to use of the term “Butt Hymen” in a humorous and perhaps degrading way. Does the potential for interpreting many of your lyrics as homophobic and gay shaming cause you any concern?

Most of your poetry also might be interpreted as trying to make fun and shame people for allegedly being unable to be in a healthy relationship and have healthy employment. Almost all of your rap opponents are painted as lonely and impoverished, living in their mother’s basement and masturbating constantly. I am not questioning whether or not your patented “mom’s meatloaf motif” is overused–Hell no; I am also not questioning whether the lonely man in moms basement masturbating imagery is played out–no way; I am more wondering if you are concerned that you might be interpreted as being insensitive to possible causes of emotional and financial instability that might cause a person to live with their parent at an advanced age? Perhaps being insensitive to the possible causes that force many poor people to lead very lonely lives?

A more serious question: Why did you choose to communicate through dedicated poetry drops and rap battles, on a political blog, which conventionally involves debate, of ideas rather than engage with the ideas. Ad Hominem attacks are still fallacious even when the made-up lines rhyme right?

“Is there anyone who believes Mark was being 100% truthful when he wrote this post?”

Mark has been a pure propagandist for awhile now. He is running with the next narrative because he has been misled to believe that he is fighting against evil. Twitter, MSNBC and CNN have successfully shut his brain off. He is now a servant to their narrative and their cause. He is way past the point of even being able to be truthful. He is an empty shell. Their vessel.

I accept your criticism of my grammar. I will try to do better.

What is the deal with your apparent homophobia? Why the apparent insensitivity to unemployed people? Why are you indirectly shaming lonely people? Rather than making up stuff up about people, in your attempt to cyber-bully, like a middle schooler; Wouldn’t it be better to just attack the actual ideas/arguments you disagree with?

Look around at the younger people who live around you, and imagine yourself two decades from now. Those are the same people who you’ll have to depend on when you need some sort of help. Even if you don’t plan on making it that far yourself, they’re going to be the ones putting your box in the ground. It’s not a great idea to be pissing them off.

You are unknowingly helping to prove my point, HP.

You are trying to illustrate our status as losers, in a humorous way, not by defeating our truth claims/ arguments, but by painting a picture of us as lonely, unemployed, poor, addicted, possibly gay, overweight gamer/porn consumers.

Your words only exist as a put-down and they only exists as humorous insofar as the image you are inventing exists within the context of an accepted homophobic, classist, fat-shaming, mental-illness shaming, addiction-shaming, and prudish worldview/context.

I am suggesting that you have more in common with the close minded and regressive church lady from the town in footloose than you like to think. I am further suggesting you step back back from “the mic”, where you imagine yourself winning battles, and perhaps try to prove that we are losers by attacking our arguments.

Tulsi is hardly the first one to question Harris regarding her record as a prosecutor. There is likely plenty more of it. Tulsi’s campaign video regarding the Mueller report is a truly desperate hail-mary. She likely knows she’s done but figured she’ll poison Kamala’s well in the way out. The real surprise last night was just how bumbling Harris was. You’d think she would be good at this.

Baltimore is a great city. Many great cities have high crime rates.
Low crime rates is not a useful measure to determine a city’s greatness.

The police in Baltimore are corrupt and Cummings is no saint. None of that excuses the illegal and inhumane treatment of mugrants, including children, at the border. There’s no correlation. Arguing about cummings and Baltimore, only serves to validate Trump’s comparison.

His tweet was nicer than Cummings deserves. What happened to the billions his district got? Wtf did they do with it? Sure didn’t clean up. It took volunteer white supremacists to begin to do that. Crying about fake Trump racism while treating the people of his district like trash and stealing their resources; that’s what I will remember Elijah Cummings for.
