This morning, in case you missed it, our President completely melted down on Twitter, where, among other things, he suggested that, if we really wanted to strike a blow against Russia, we’d immediately drop the investigation into their 2016 election meddling. And instead of picking up my phone and calling the office of an elected official, or donating to a swing state Democratic candidate, or something else that might have actually made a difference, I took the bait, investing an hour of my time to respond to everything that he’d written. Here, because I have nothing else worth sharing this evening, are a few examples… Again, I know it’s completely useless, but sometimes it feels good to Tweet-back, knowing that a few hundred of his followers might see it. Plus, I think it’s probably good to practice a little every week on Twitter, given that’s where today’s wars are being fought. One, after all, wouldn’t want to bring a blog post to a tweet fight.
Ah, so if we really want to strike a blow against Russia, we should drop the investigation. Makes perfect sense.

You said “it may be Russia” when you knew full well that it was Russia. You had received the intelligence briefings. The question isn’t whether or not you were deceptive, but why.

It takes a special kind of man to use the death of children to deter prosecution. The image that comes to mind is that of Martin Sheen in The Dead Zone, holding a child in front of him like a shield to protect himself from bullets. @StephenKing

I think about all those rich people who voted for this clown because they wanted tax breaks.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Emma Gonzalez on Trump’s tweet: “The FBI were some of the amazing first responders who were helping us get to safety and the fact that he wants to discredit them in any way… it’s not acceptable.” (via CNN)

“Never underestimate the right-wing evil and idiocy of the dismal and deplorable, dollar-drenched Democrats. Since Trump’s triumph, the Intercept reports, the party’s big money establishment has been systematically undercutting progressive Single-Payer Sanders-style office-seekers who would be likely to prevail by running (imagine) in accord with majority-progressive public opinion in 2018 and 2020. Along the way, Congressional Democrats can’t seem to stop voting to give more military and spying dollars and power to a president they criticize as corrupt, crazy, and incompetent, some citing Fire and Fury in their denunciations.”
“White House aides advised the president against golfing so soon after the tragedy, so Trump spent much of the holiday weekend watching cable television news and grousing to club members and advisers.”
He is golfing again today, though, so we have less rage tweeting to look forward to.
I liked how he baited Oprah. Will she respond? The tension builds.
On a serious note I’m looking forward to seeing how he handles these angry children.
Fact Check: President Trump falsely claimed he had never rejected the notion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. He has said “maybe there is no hacking” and “I don’t believe they interfered.” http://nyti.ms/2o6l4rG
Even though there is no proof (yet) that Trump is guilty of collusion, his attempts to derail and/or discredit the investigation sure don’t make him look good.
I have to admit that even though the likelihood of this is almost nil, I admit that I would love to see him get the death penalty for treason. Even though I generally don’t think the death penalty is a good idea
You intentionally misunderstand. It’s so immature. It’s “Drop the Trump/Russia Collusion Bullshit investigation” obviously.
An honest man would want an investigation conducted with integrity because it would likely clear him. All this obstruction, which is a crime in and of itself, is something a guilty man would do.
I love it when HW calls others ‘immature.’
It appears that Mr. Maynard has blocked me from this site.
I don’t intentionally misrepresent what someone says as some kind of sorry weapon.
HW— we see evidence of bias in your positions that you don’t see. It’s the nature of bias that it is unaware of itself. It could be that we are biased against you, or you are biased against women and people of color and anyone from a different ethnicity or country. Or both could be true to varying degrees.
You have spent ample time articulating your point of view here. Anyone reading will be able to come to their own conclusions about whether you are biased or not, about whether we are unfairly characterizing your positions or not. There’s no need to be defensive or hurt. It’s not a good look. You chose to come on a progressive blog and defend Trump and put forward your elaborate theories of deep state plots to undermine his presidency and support the complicit HRC. I’m not sure what response you expected.
Your accusations of unfair treatment are unlikely to receive the empathetic response you want here. Especially in light of your own vitriol.
Ps you actually do mischaracterize the positions of others with regularity. You do it so often and so obviously that few bother to correct you. It’s not worth it. Your credibility or lack thereof is earned by Only you.
Here’s something for those you who really want to feel sick.
The Washington Post on how the Trump administration was relieved to have a school shooting last week.
“For everyone, [the Parkland shooting] was a distraction or a reprieve,” said one W.H. official, speaking anonymously to reflect internal conversations. “A lot of people here felt like it was a reprieve from seven or eight days of just getting pummeled.”
“A lot of people here felt like it was a reprieve from seven or eight days of just getting pummeled.”
It’s like an episode of VEEP, but not satire, and so not at all funny.
I did not vote for Trump.
The people who did should be ashamed.
