Who would you like to see dragged back to Ypsi/Arbor against their will?

For those of you who didn’t notice, I’ve added a link at the bottom of the right hand column. When clicked, it will take you to a page where I’ve started collecting all of our Ypsi/Arbor Exit Interviews. I may have missed a few, but I’ve tried, as best that I could, to aggregate them all in this one spot. (If I’ve forgotten anyone, let me know and I’ll add them in.) Well, it’s probably not right of me to ask this, as I don’t want to make this a competitive thing, but I’m curious as to who, of all of these people that we’ve spoken with over the past few years, you’d most want to have back on our team… So, here’s the question of the day: If you could abduct one person and drag them back against their will, who would it be?

<a href="http://www.sodahead.com/fun/of-all-the-people-who-have-abandoned-us-over-the-past-several-years-who-would-you-most-like-to-have/question-3490305/" title="Of all the people who have abandoned us over the past several years, who would you most like to have back?">Of all the people who have abandoned us over the past several years, who would you most like to have back?</a>

Also, if you have suggestions as to other people that I should interview in this series, let me know.

And, yes, I’m apparently obsessed by polls these days. I’m sure the novelty will wear off soon, though, so just be patient.

    A few things.

    1. I know I need to interview James, Amelia and Ruth Marks. I keep thinking that they’ll come back from California, though.

    2. The image in the above graphic is of people fleeing Sodom and Gomorrah. I thought that it was appropriate.

    3. I’ve sent requests to a few other people for interviews, but they haven’t responded. One of these people is Todd Leopold, from Leopold Brothers. If you know him, tell him to respond to my emails, OK?

    4. And I promise that I won’t do this again. I don’t think it’s fair to ask who, of all these good people, you’d most like to see come back. (I feel bad for the people who won’t get any votes, like Hollis.) I couldn’t resist, though.

I may be brought back to Ypsi against my will if I can’t get the appraisals on my house to meet the very decent offers that I have had from buyers. The “eclectic” nature of Ypsi’s housing stock means that real estate comparables are deceptive.

Erika, didn’t we do an exit interview? I KNEW that I missed people.

Hmmm… You did an Immigration Interview, Erika, but I apparently never got you on the way out. I know we discussed it, though.

No offense t anyone else, but I’m voting for Thomas Kula because of the beard/kilt combo.

I was supposed to interview Iggy years ago, but he never called. (Virgin Records was an advertiser in my magazine, and they’d set it up.) I’d still be into it, though, if anyone has an idea as to how it might happen…. A letter writing campaign, for instance?

As for others to interview, I know it’s going back a ways, but I’m also thinking about Scott Reynolds.

    Interview yourself.

It’s a lame journalistic trick to write your own obituary, so you should tell us why you hypothetically left Ypsilanti.

Then we can decide as a community to fix those things that hypothetically made you leave or reinforce them.

I wouldn’t say it’s beneath him. I like the idea of revisiting all of the people who have left the community over the past few years and considering what they would have contributed had they stayed. My vote, I think, would be for the young dancer who left for New York. I feel guilty, however, for wanting her back, though, as her future is clearly elsewhere.

I had thought that you had done more of these. It’s interesting looking at them as a group. At least four of them work in film in one way or another – Becca, Forest, Vinnie and Adrianne. I find that telling.

Mark, you asked me to do an interview but I said I wanted to wait until the house sells. I’ll still feel tethered to Ypsi until that happens.

    @ Erika

I’m sorry to hear you’re considering leaving Ypsi, but not surprised given some of the conversations we had a while back.

We’ve had several break-ins in our neighborhood recently, including our own home — through the front door, in broad daylight — on New Year’s day.

I know these things can, and do, happen everywhere, but I’m increasingly concerned about what impact the next few years’ worth of City budget cuts will have on both the perception and reality of public safety in our community.

That a substantial portion of these cuts will be necessary because Ypsilanti, as a community, has (twice) refused to face up to its actual budget needs and realities is beyond depressing.

Everyone has a different “tipping point” when it comes to these matters, so I’m not going to judge anyone’s individual choices about whether to stay or go. I would say, however, that while Ypsilanti continues to have many good things going for it, and enormous potential, if we can’t resolve to maintain an “adequate” level of basic services, especially police and fire, it will be harder and harder to see that potential come to fruition.

More people want Christine the Troll back than Hob the Troll. I find that interesting as well.

Windsor McKay, Elijah McCoy, Phyllis Diller, Iggy Pop. Who knows if one of these young people to have left might go on to do equally great things.

I chose Becca Keating because of all her work on AAFF. She has done such a good job and it would be rad to still have her! I was thinking Annie Palmer but I guess AA isn’t as far as California. Also Casey Dixon has moved back to town (the things I know from working at the library). My hypothetical vote, had the person been listed, is for Quinn Donnay. I miss her so much.

Ha, Hilarious. I just voted for myself for good measure. I hope my morally ambiguous voting strategy doesn’t turn the tide of opinion against me!

I love you Ypsi and hope to see you soon.

I think we should start a rumor about Elijah McCoy’s ghost being on Water Street, maybe even projecting some ghostly images on sheets late at night in hopes that passing cars might catch a glimpse.
