This year, I didn’t hit anyone up to watch the Super Bowl at their place. I just stayed home, washed dishes, and worked with Clementine on her math homework instead. I’ve done it in the past, though, and it always kind of bothers me. I feel like a hypocrite… I try not to “brag” about not having a TV, but I know that’s how it comes across to some folks in the audience. Because of that, I try not to bring it up too often, but it’s hard not to mention it, as television is such a big part of modern life… So, yeah, I know it comes across as though I’m bragging, or somehow condemning those of you who choose to spend your free time in front of the television, and, for that reason, I always feel weird, and kind of ashamed, when I want to watch something on broadcast television… Anyway, that’s what I was trying to get at with this silly, little post.

MSN streamed it this year. You could have watched it on your computer.

For what it’s worth, I felt kind of weird soliciting young men for sex, given all the shit I’d said from the pulpit. So, you’re not alone.

The Vonnegut video you linked to in the ‘Bill Murray on Late Night’ post has some great points on television and what it does to people’s minds. Vonnegut, it’s worth noting, worked in advertising for General Electric after World War Two, and knows his shit when it comes to stuff like this.

    I miss Vonnegut greatly.

Mark, a more appropriate meme for you would be “Constantly brags about not having a TV, spends an inordinate amount of time watching old TV clips on YouTube.”
