Castro on the oil spill

I wouldn’t call myself a fan of Fidel Castro, but it’s hard to disagree with him on the current oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and what it illustrates. Here’s what he had to say in a statement released yesterday:

This disaster “shows how little governments can do against those who control the capital, who in both the United States and Europe are, due to the economy of our globalized planet, those who decide the destiny of the public.”

The guy’s got a point. Our corporations have clearly grown to point where they, perhaps more so than our elected governments, control the public’s destiny… But, with that said, I’m not satisfied that Cuba’s state-owned oil rigs are any more secure than those of BP. Still, it’s worth considering.

I haven’t been watching the news, what with all the Mothers’ Day festivities, but, the last that I heard, it looked as though a majority of the oil may bypass Louisiana, and hit the Florida coast. I know it’s a horrible thing to wish on anyone, but I think it would be pretty cool if it was all headed toward Rush Limbaugh’s private beach, seeing as how he doesn’t think it’s a big deal… Maybe, if we all prayed, we could make it happen.

Nope. An accident. I’ll fix it… Thanks.

This is your big chance to prove to us that you’re real, God.

Rush is our would-be Castro. Make no mistake.

All of the oil shouldn’t go to Rush. Some of it should go to the elected official who compared it last week to chocolate milk.
