Locked in heated battle with Sarah Palin for leadership of the delusional Tea Party wing of the Republican party, Rush Limbaugh went for broke today, suggesting not only that the recent BP oil spill was the work of a radical environmentalist, but also that the ocean would somehow remediate the environmental disaster itself. Here, if you don’t believe me, is a clip from Florida’s St. Petersburg Times:
…Pundit Rush Limbaugh, who has a home on Florida’s Palm Beach, suggested that the explosion could have resulted from Earth Day eco-sabotage by one of the rig workers. Limbaugh also said a cleanup was unnecessary.
“The ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and left out there,” Limbaugh said. “It’s natural. It’s as natural as the ocean water is”…
I’m sure that’s quite the consolation for the men and women of Louisiana who depend on the Gulf for their livelihoods, not to mention the millions of animals that are likely to be affected.
Speaking of the spill, the most recent news I’ve heard is that it could take up to three months to stop it from spewing, and it’s apparently leaking at a rate of 25,000 barrels a day.
I don’t mean to be rude, but, if you’re a fan of Rush Limbaugh’s, fuck you.
And how’s this for a solution? We lure Rush to the Gulf Coast, promising lots of young sex partners and OxyContin, and then use him to plug the hole.

Rush, much like Bob Dylan, is now merely a parody of himself.
‘Round them parts, it’s referred to as a Texas Tea Party.
I agree with Rush. It’s more like split chocolate milk than an environmental disaster.

From the Progress Report:
THE COST OF CLEANUP: According to David Kotok of Cumberland Advisers, initial estimates of cleanup costs totaling about $12.5 billion are “only a starter.” “This will be a financial calamity for many firms, not just BP and its partners and service providers. Their liabilities are immense and must not be underestimated,” he wrote, adding that “we expect to see the deterioration of the economic statistics for the US.” BP itself is spending between $6 million and $7 million per day on the cleanup effort. For comparison, the Exxon Valdez spills costs exceeded $7 billion. The federal government is also mobilizing resources, including National Guard units, the costs of which BP will be held responsible for. “As the responsible party in this incident, the government will hold BP accountable for the costs of the deployment,” said a Pentagon spokesperson. The federal government may also tap into the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, which is built up by a tax on oil produced in or imported to the United States, in order to compensate victims of the disaster. According to the New York Times, “up to $1 billion of the $1.6 billion reserve could be used to compensate for losses from the accident.” This is critical, as failure to address the many economic effects of the spill could be a drag on a still weak economy. BP made $163 billion in profits from 2001-2009 — and another $5.6 billion in the first quarter of this year — and has asked other oil companies, including Exxon Mobil, to pitch in with the cleanup effort. Despite their extra cash, however, the company decided to forgo “a remote-control shutoff switch that two other major oil producers, Norway and Brazil, require,” in order to save $500,000 on the rig.
Thanks Mark. Perfect sentiment.
I’m picturing Rush getting sucked into the tube like Augustus Gloop.

It’s getting better. Rush is now saying that the Sierra Club should pay for the cleanup, as they forced oil companies off shore, where the work is more dangerous.
I’m impressed. I didn’t think he could go any further.

I heard that he was attacking Mr. Rogers a few days ago too, claiming that he’s responsible for making American’s too weak and sensitive. You do kind of have to admire that.

[…] would be pretty cool if it was all headed toward Rush Limbaugh’s private beach, seeing as how he doesn’t think it’s a big deal… Maybe, if we all prayed, we could make it happen. This entry was posted in Corporate Crime, […]
