A couple weeks ago, when I heard that an MM.com screenshot had appeared on CNN, I thought that I’d reached the pinnacle of my meaningless blog-fame. Well, it looks as though I was wrong. This morning, I was quoted by the BBC. The quote that the reporter used wasn’t that good, but it’s been bringing in visitors from merry old England by the boatload. Here’s what they chose to share:
“Not only does Gannon toss softballs, but he serves the purpose of changing the course of questioning when things get too hot for Bush,” said blogger Mark Maynard
The story, by the way, was about the Gannon case. For some reason the author singled out MM.com and the Daily Kos site. I can see why they included Kos, as several folks in the Kos community were instrumental in breaking the case, but I’m kind of at a loss as to why this site of ours would be included. I just made some dumb jokes, and then suggested that the White House begin using robot reporters in the White House press pool. As my friend Brad used to say, “It’s fuckin’ ponderous.”
Here, in case you don’t believe me, is what visitors to the BBC site saw today… The link to MM.com is right across from Bush’s squinty, little eyes.
(I’m hoping that perhaps we get a better class of troll as a result.)

That’s huge! Why don’t you go live there now you unpatriotic pinko!
I assume my people fled England for a reason.
Poor Mark. You get this huge, unexpected bit of publicity, you rush to share it with all your friends and loved ones on your website, and the first response is from some stupid bastard who has no point to make or insight to share, but only a one-line ad hominem attack against you in which he questions your patriotism.
Well, I love you, Mark; I read and enjoy your blog regularly and I am excited for you that your blog has been cited by the BBC.
That the BBC has recognized your blog is clear evidence that your website is both popular and relevant.
Mickey (from Olive Garden)
Before any other waiters from the Olive Garden jump in to my defense, I should point out that Ken wasn’t being serious. As he’s left many comments here before in the past, I feel fairly confident that he was just anticipating the response of the trolls… who have been strangely silent lately.
I was a busboy. And my apologies to Ken.
Did I tell you about this site instead of tipping? I’ve been know to do that.
(eagerly cracks typing-knuckles in anticipation of a British troll suddenly appearing and posting a defense* of colonialism)
*(in English english, this word is ‘defence’)
This is good for all of us commenters. We are that much closer to relevance now that we know that the fucking brits are reading this site.
Thanks to my friend Anonomatt, I’ve read a few copies of
“. . . but I
I think you should change the sub heading now. Maybe it can be something like, “From CNN to BBC and the fruited plains of porn inbetween.”
I took the liberty in case you wanted to use that!

I thought I told you to stay off the computer in my office. I’m serious, Mickey. This is your last warning.
Sorry for the interruption.
Holy shit. This is a damn fine site. (I owe you one for leaving this page open, Mickey.) I can see why the brits – and my busboys – like it so much. Politics, porn stars, civil rights, degradation – what’s not to like?
“Politics, porn stars, civil rights, degradation – “
…and then there’s Maude.
Yes, indeed, Brett. “And then there was Maude.”
A brilliant close to a thread.
Gay male prostitute Jeff Gannon likely had sleepovers with Bush on many occasions.
