Unions representing air traffic controllers, pilots, and flight attendants release joint statement on shutdown: "We cannot even calculate the level of risk currently at play, nor predict the point at which the entire system will break. It is unprecedented" https://t.co/RcWYmT5drD pic.twitter.com/NZUgiVvudj

I planned on visiting my cousins in New Jersey in a few days, but I sure as hell am not going to be getting on a flight under these circumstances. I can wait, or drive.
Great timing: I am getting on a plane in the morning….
I flew a few days ago and the people at the airport were exceptionally friendly and kind and attentive. And, yes, I thanked each and every one for being there for me and all the other travelers. I know that thanks don’t pay the bills, but kindness never hurts. I’ll stick with it!
Lest anyone forget whose fault this is.

It’s asking a lot of one industry, its workers and those who desperately need to travel, but it’s clear a walk-out by pilots, flight attendants and air traffic controllers ends Trump’s tantrum of misrule in two days. And the safety concerns with aviation justify such entirely.

New–Was just told that FBI internships are being canceled due to the shutdown, which amounts to hundreds of hours of investigative support every week “just gone.” FBI declined to comment.

I am getting really worried about the effect this shutdown is going to have on our economy, especially if things like air transportation are affected. Teleconferences only go so far. Sometimes business needs to be conducted in person and this is going to have an affect. It is just one thing too. SMH. Our toddler-in-chief is going to cause a lot of harm over this stupid wall.
iRobert –
Do you see the terms “greater good” and “common good” as the same or different?
Dave Morris,
I see the terms as having different meanings.
How about you?
iRobert –
I see them as having different meanings as well. I hear people use them synonymously though..like then ( sequential ) and than ( relational ).
“Common Good” seems to imply a dialogue among a community about what is best.
“Greater Good” seems more abstract and implies a bargain in which some will gain and some will lose… greater than / less than.
I am curious if your experience in politics has shown politicians to prefer one term over the other…
Dave Morris,
To me, “common good” seems to reference considerations of a more practical nature, where a society as a whole seeks some balance in how sacrifice and benefits are distributed.
Similarly to you, I perceive “greater good” as referencing more abstract matters or concerns, but where everyone may be expected to sacrifice.
I feel as though politicians in the US overall are more often talking in terms of the “common good” than they are in terms of “greater good.” Though I rarely hear those specific words used.
It also seems as though Democrats have been increasingly speaking in terms of “greater good” with their focus on issues like global warming. Though I’d still say most discussions remain in the realm of “common good.”

I have to admit, HP has some talent as a poet. And when you think about it, his heiku is almost Q-anon-esque. That kinda sticks the knife in deeper.
