Every year, during the Shadow Art Fair, we unveil a special beer, brewed in honor of the event. This summer’s beer, which is being called the Penumbra Blackberry White Ale, will be unveiled at 6:00 PM this Saturday, at the Corner Brewery. Here’s the official writeup:
Brewed with chamomile, lavender, strawberry rose petal white tea, french oak chips, tangerines, oranges, vanilla chai granola, lemons, blackberry jam, black raspberry jam, blueberries, black raspberries, date crunch granola, brown rice syrup, mojito mix, raspberry sorbet, coconut sap nectar, macadamia nuts, tapioca starch, strawberries, jasmine, pink rose buds, and tons of blackberries. Aged one month in a bourboney oak barrel.
Supplies are limited. The Shadow Brew is released at 6pm at the Brewery and typically sells out quickly. Act accordingly if you’re interested in trying it.
And, as always, a portion of sales from the Shadow Brews goes toward our Shadow Arts Grant. Many thanks to our volunteer brewers Ryan, Logan, & Hollis.

I’m in Ann Arbor now, looking at a copy of the Current magazine. It has a really small listing for the Shadow Art Fair. It’s about the size of two postage stamps. In contrast, it has 14 full pages on the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, with the headline “walking amongst creatives.” I realize that the Ann Arbor Art Fairs probably gave them a lot of cash for the coverage, but it’s an absolute joke that our local “alternative” monthly is so pathetic. It makes me want to vomit.

I will have to remember to say that to myself as I make my way through the Shadow.
In terms of how much money our two very different art fairs bring into our respective cities, I think the space allotted in print is about right. We are about two stamps worth to their fourteen pages. I’d like to think that it’s not all about money, though.
