Monkey Power Trio determined to be awesomely meow-worthy

I don’t generally share reviews of my one-day-a-year band, the Monkey Power Trio, on this site. I’d like to say that its because I’m modest. It has more to do, however, with the fact that the reviews are, almost without exception, embarrassingly negative. But, every so often, for reasons that I can’t quite understand, someone, like the late, great John Peel, comes forward to declare us worthy of attention. Today, it was some college kid from Stanford, who, in what I can only imagine to be a desperate attempt to demonstrate just how far outside of the mainstream he is, gave us a 10 on a scale from 1 to 10. (I’m assuming that 10 is the highest.) Here’s what this, clearly high, reviewer had to say.

Personally, I’d give our last effort a 4, but I was there, and I know how little work went into it.

If you want to, you can judge for yourself by clicking here and giving the record a listen. And, if you like it, you can even purchase a copy for your collection!

And, if, after that, you’d like to hear more positive stuff about the band, another California radio station broadcast a 4-hour special about us a few years ago, which you can find here.

I think that our next record should be called Neanderthal Drum Machine.

I went to the Dick Panthers website, and found the following posted. As it seemed in line with the community standards at MarkMaynard.com, I thought that I’d share it here.

Not bad. References to Tom Waits and Zappa. I’m guessing the “passive aggressive rambling” was Mark’s contribution.

Hey there, just thought I’d point out that although I was 100% sober when I reviewed it, your record is fucking awesome. Who knows, maybe my efforts are desperate, but if songs like “Chiasmus” are the reward I get for fleeing from the mainstream, then it’s totally worth it.
Thanks for sending your music to KZSU! Don’t forget to send us the next record too.
