For those of you, like me, without access to a working television, here’s the 60 Minutes interview with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange that ran earlier this evening.

Just because someone’s a douchey egomaniac doesn’t mean they can’t be right.
I liked his correction about not being a martyr…. yet.
I don’t really buy some of the things he says, like his insistence that he doesn’t hate the US govt. But only the truly pinheaded of the right-wing can deny how reasonable and well spoken he is about his motivations. It’s tough not to agree with most of what he says, even if he is slightly creepy.
Regardless of whether or not he’s guilty of his alleged sex crimes, I find the charge of “sex by surprise” to be fascinating. The Swedes never cease to amaze me.
CBS’s Kroft after 6 hour interview with Assange: “I don’t think he’s the evil genius people have portrayed him to be […] I thought he did a very good job of defending his arguments quite honestly […] After talking to him, I consider him a journalist.”

I watched the interview Sunday and it just reinforced what I already thought about wikileaks which was that they are simply doing what real reporters used to do before every newspaper was owned by a big corporations. Reporters used to risk everything to dig into stories and get the truth.
