If you have anything to say to the baby kraken, you’d better say it now…

I don’t know that it’ll interest the Kraken, but it looks like Rick Snyder has picked a running mate.

    Dear Baby Kraken,

I love Loooove travel. At least I love the idea of it and fantasizing that someday I can afford to travel. I am a huge sucker for travel shows whether it’s Anthony Bordain eating the world or the next Bachelorette eating love in the isles. I want to go, eat, digest!

But I’m also worried about global warming. The best thing about being poor is I already turn off the lights, down the thermostat, scrimp on gas and can’t afford to travel farther than Birch Run. But I really try, too, even when it doesn’t save me money.

Here’s my dilemma. Why do people who drive Priuses fly everywhere? Don’t they know that taking a plane to anywhere pretty much is the worst thing you can do? I mean, I’m pretty sure the guy (okay, my Dad) who drives a big Ford pickup EVERYWHERE but is a teaparty spendthrift who never leaves town has a lower carbon footprint than all my friends who “shop local” but vacation in Italy (and bring back “local” wines and fashions). And why do all the famous lecturers (Hollywood, politicians, academics) fly everywhere? Why do they get to spew a jetstream of carbon and make me feel guilty for shopping at Kroger and driving a 94 Sunbird? (Seriously! I’ve had folks with hybrids be like, “Um, can you drive my car, it’ll save on carbon” when they ask me for a ride to the airport).

I guess what I’m getting at is can’t we give everyone a carbon allotment, like the WWII rations, and once they’ve run out they have to downsize and stay home or buy rations off someone else? I’m pretty sure I’d quickly earn enough to pay for my once-in-a-lifetime trip to Thailand.

It just seems like folks with money pretend to care when they can afford it, but aren’t really willing to give up anything that many of us don’t even have.

    Sincerely,

    Broke and Craving in Ypsilanti

Mark, you must open a bar called The Baby Kraken. You must do this immediately. You must do it with passion. It should serve one kind of beer, and platters of cheese.

    Kraken,

My little brother told my parents that it was me who ate up all the honey we’d put by for winter, and now I’m being punished. I want to get back at him, but I don’t know how. Do you have any suggestions?

    Keep it classy Ypsi.

Ypsilanti police say a teenager struck a pedestrian in the head for no apparent reason Tuesday afternoon as they were passing on the sidewalk near the Ypsilanti District Library.

The victim told police he was walking in the 200 block of West Michigan Avenue at about 4 p.m. when he passed a teenager on the sidewalk. With no provocation, the teen struck the man in the back of the head, reports said.

Police officers identified a 17-year-old suspect and arrested him a short time later, reports said. He was taken to the police station and was later released pending charges of assault and battery.

The victim was not injured, police said.

Does anyone have any in depth reviews of Smarty Catz? I still have not been there.

Smarty Catz has the decor a strip mall restaurant but with beer signs between the art and a stripper pole in the middle of the floor. Very confusing. The bar area was nice. and so was the person working.
I didn’t know stripper poles rotated. I guess it makes sense. It was fun to play on. Go there for that alone.

As for your brother, I’d suggest hanging him in his closet and making it look like autoerotic asphyxiation. Be sure to leave some really nasty gay porn at his feet. This will be especially funny if he’s seven years old or younger.

during an otherwise terrible week, my night is a little better after seeing the preview for ‘conviction’– i can proudly report that the button i made for the propmaster during filming made the cut. you just barely see the older woman wearing it at 1 minute 9 seconds, and 1 minute 19 seconds. …it’s the little things… those are my two seconds of hollywood fame.

that, and that my cousin, jimmy griffin, was in the band ‘bread.’ when i was at the cemetery burying my grandmother last week, the staff person working with us was very excited to learn our relation to him. he’s buried there too and featured in their “famous people buried at memorial park in memphis” booklet. while there a memorial for isaac hayes was also going on, because they’re naming a section of highway after him.

I’ve have had very good luck bathing my balls during my annual reviews. I put a small tupperware dish on my bosses desk, fill it with tonic water, drop in a few denture cleaning tables (that’s my secret), then slowly lower my balls into it. I let them float around of a few minutes, and then we’re done. I always get my raise.
