Glenn to the Mountaintop

Remember how, a while ago, I was telling you that Glenn Beck was working on a novel that sounded suspiciously like a kinder, gentler version of the Turner Diaries? Well, that book, called “The Overton Window,” apparently isn’t the only thing the perpetually crying showman is working on. According to his website, he’s also writing a detailed plan for the “refounding” of America. Here’s a clip:

– I have begun meeting with some of the best minds in the country that believe in limited government, maximum freedom and the values of our Founders. I am developing a 100 year plan. I know that the bipartisan corruption in Washington that has brought us to this brink and it will not be defeated easily. It will require unconventional thinking and a radical plan to restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting, using only the battlefield of ideas.

– All of the above will culminate in The Plan, a book that will provide specific policies, principles and, most importantly, action steps that each of us can take to play a role in this Refounding.

– On August 28, 2010, I ask you, your family and neighbors to join me at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall for the unveiling of The Plan and the birthday of a new national movement to restore our great country.

And, here, on Beck’s plan to refound America, is a quote from Stephen Colbert:

“Yes, refounding… Glenn loves our country so much, he wants to tear it down and rebuild it.”

And, I doubt that it’s a coincidence that he wants to unveil this magnificent plan on August 28 – the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech. He’s a smart guy, and he’s well aware of the symbolism. He knows that frustrated, fearful white Americans want to hear someone articulate their dream. And he wants to give it to them, standing exactly where Martin Luther King did. Maybe, if we’re lucky, he’ll even work in a mention of the fact that our President has a “deep-seated hatred of white people.”

Here’s what Colbert had to say:

I’m anxious for the Beck thing to be over. He’s got to self-destruct at some point, right? There has to be a Dead Zone type moment, where he uses a kid to shield himself from bullets or something.

I’d totally be willing to give Beck and his followers either Texas or Arizona so that they can put their Plan into motion.

Not sure what to attribute it to, but Beck’s viewership numbers are down bay as much as 50%.

If he’s got a plan, he had better use it.

EL&R, I think I’d attribute it to the fact that his audience doesn’t want to hear these constant mentions of MLK.

Maybe if he held his event on the anniversary of the day that MLK was shot.

  1. […] We’ve talked about it before, but tomorrow is the big day. Tomorrow is the day that the great white crusader, Glenn Beck, the man who once famously said that Barack Obama, our first black President, has “a deep-seated hatred or white people,” will climb the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., with Sarah Palin at his side, and “reclaim” the civil rights movement before a crowd of angry, terrified and white FOX News viewers. It’s unclear as to what exactly he’ll say, on this, the 47th anniversary of day that Martin Luther King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, but I’m sure it will be every bit as brilliant, inspiring and historic. Here, in the meantime, is Jon Stewart’s take on the whole thing. […]
