the first open thread of the year

Linette and I are up at midnight paying bills and getting caught up on filing. It’s not a terribly romantic way to spend New Year’s Eve. We are drinking champaign though… We’ve agreed to be more organized and efficient in the new year. I guess you could call it a resolution. We’ve also resolved to pay down our debt, start putting away money for Clementine’s college education, and get rid of everything in our home that isn’t absolutely essential. The first 25 minutes have gone pretty well. How about you? How are your resolutions holding up? (I have to go now, before she discovers that I’m blogging. Blogging, it seems, negatively impacts my efficiency.)

Happy New Year to everyone on the blog!

I’m out enjoying the snow, keeping up with shoveling, and enjoying my dog Kongo, who is sleeping on the deck covered with about an inch of the white stuff.

    Pace, everyone.

Last night, as I was trying to sleep, I heard some weird multi-faceted sound periodically. It sounded like my roof was collapsing–or some skinny trees next to the house were being blown against the siding. I’ll check it out when I’m shoveling.

My resolutions are momentary, fleeting. Live in the moment, don’t dwell on the future or the past, and be attentive to the task at hand. I resolve to do that more, right now.

I’ve never been a gutsy risk taker. Maybe I should be a gutsy risk taker. I’ll do that right now. I’m going to try to jump over my dog and land on the bean bag.

    Happy New Year.

Happy 2008 to everyone! We waited until 11:54 to start preparing for the toast and ended up with apple cider in our glasses because we couldn’t get the freakin’ champagne bottle opened by the time the countdown ended. My resolution SHOULD BE to be more prepared. But it’s not. It’s to relax and enjoy life more this year. Shouldn’t be such a hard thing to do except for the whole Type A, control freak thing.

And by “the white stuff”, he means cocaine.

Mark, many of my resolutions sound like yours and blogging has impacted my efficiency too; although, I’ve become much more efficient at blogging compared to last year when I hadn’t ever done it.

My family and I look forward to the new year with hope and expectation. I hope everyone experiences a year filled with hopes fullfilled.

I’ve decided to pursue less obscure fetishes in the new year.

After a great deal of prayer I’ve decided to raise an army of Segways and combat the forces of darkness rallying against me. I have also decided to stop chewing tobacco and obtain a mint copy of the first Canned Heat album.

As I live in Michigan I wish my fetish was big butts spilling out of too tight acid wash jeans. It would make life so much easier. It’s a shame you can’t choose your fetish the way gay people can choose to be gay.

    Mark,

I heard yesterday that the Dali Lama will be in Ann Arbor in the near future, making two separate appearances. I think you should do a little research on this and start a new topic regarding it.

Glad you found it, John. I was about to post a link… And that’s the good thing about the internet, we can’t see red faces.
