His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet will be in Ann Arbor this April. While here, he will be delivering two teachings on Engaging Wisdom and Compassion based on Nagarjuna’s “Commentary on Ultimate Compassion” and Je Tsong Khapa’s “In Praise of Dependent Origination.” He will also be delivering an Earth Day speech on the subject of sustainability as part of the University of Michigan’s Peter M. Wege lecture series.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on March 5, and I suspect they’ll go quickly. When he last visited Ann Arbor, in 1994, he drew 9,000 people.
I’m sure his time is pretty well spoken for while he’s here, but, if he’s free, I’d like to offer to take him to lunch. If it sweetens the deal any, I also have a friend, a professor of eastern religion, who I think I could convince to come along and pick up the tab. Or, if lunch won’t work, I could just drive him around. I have another friend who shuttles Buddhist monks around, and he tells me they’re great traveling companions… So, if anyone out there is in any way involved, and if you’re looking to save a few dollars, give me a call. I haven’t asked Linette about it, but I’m pretty sure that he could even stay with us if he needs a place to crash.

If it helps, I’ll make him lunch. Chicken fried in ham and bacon drippings. Side of grits with gravy, black-eyed-peas, cornbread and ham-hock boiled greens. Same offer I’m making to John Edwards.
You won’t get that at Cracker Barrel.
I think he only eats the brains of his enemies. At least that’s what I learned in school.
His fighting style is unstoppable.
Tickets for the Dharma talks are on sale now; tickets for the Wege lecture will be free. Info here:

Thanks for the update, Jim.
(Still no word from the Dalai Lama about lunch.)
At one of the events, the one that costs I think, there will be an overflow standing room with CCTV feed for free.
