I think the Masons are getting a bit nervous about declining membership. I toured the Masonic Temple in London a few years ago, and the guide kept grumbling about Freemasonry’s decline — especially the fact that the royal family had zero interest in it. And here in the US (a different “rite”), I’ve seen Freemasons hawking grilled cheese sandwiches and passing out brochures at county fairs. I guess memorizing long dull rituals, and reciting them for a few other people, has lost some of its sparkle over the years…
