“what are your crimes? what do you have to hide? murder perhaps? baby rape?”

I just stumbled across this really odd piece of footage of three Scientologists attacking a non-believer on the streets of LA in 1999. I don’t know what else to say — it’s just absolutely amazing stuff (once you make it past the first few minutes). Here’s a clip from the fellow who shot it:

Scientology held an open event on a street actually renamed ‘L. Ron Hubbard Way’ by the city of Los Angeles. I tried to attend the event and was stopped from walking down a public street. This video contains an excellent example of ‘bullbaiting’ which is something Scientologists drill to do. The idea is to try to cave in the person who is being assaulted.

It’s really bizarre. The three Scientologists start asking why he’s there filming, and suggest that he’s been drawn to them because of some deep, dark secret that he’s been hiding. They insinuate that he’s killed people and/or raped babies. You really have to see it to appreciate just how delusional these people are. Clearly, it’s been drilled into them that the only people who would have issues with what they’re doing are those individuals who have something very evil to hide.

Fear the other. In-group = safe, good, pure. Out-group = evil, devils, monsters. Dehumanize the other. Our country does it, too. How come groups have to such all the time?

Or mmaybe the filmer really did rape a dead baby…it has gotten to the point that the outrageous is becoming easier to believe, or live with anyway.

I’d love to get those three guys a sitcom deal. If I still lived in LA, I’d be hunting them down at this very minute.
