clementine

Well, within a few short hours of the Elvisfest grand-finale (six Elvis tribute artists on stage at once, fighting for the microphone), Linette and I went to the hospital and retrieved our new baby daughter. Her name is Clementine… I will write a lot more later, but this will have to suffice for now.

Clementine Lao Maynard was born at about 8:30 Sunday morning, July 11. She weighed in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces. She was 21.5 inches long. She appears to be perfect in every way.

Her feet are enormous.

As for the birth, everything went extremely well. I dont want to bore you with all the details, but it really couldnt have gone any better. We are very fortunate.

As for the name, Clementine, it didnt, until Sunday morning, have any significance in either Linettes family or my own. (It wasnt the name of a favorite great aunt, or something like that.) We just thought that it was a beautiful name from an earlier time in American history. (Linette checked the Social Security page and apparently by 2003 the name had slid all the way down to 1,380th on the list of most popular names for girls.) Anyway, we love the name, and we love our new daughter. Here she is in her on-line debut:
