[Tonight’s open thread is brought to you by the hideous monster known as Laura Ingraham, the brilliant, often detestable, usually drunk, and now apparently dying Christopher Hitchens, and the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library.]
I’m kind of in hiding this weekend…

I’ve been drinking heavily.
I’m drinking coffee at the Mug, wondering why two or more employees aren’t working at all times…
Roots are you twittering on Mark’s blog or what?
Laura Ingram is drunk on herself.
Don’t travel east on I-94. Down to one lane past the airport BUT down to a catatonic state at about mile marker 196 before the airport. I spent an hour and a half from #196 to #200 before I could get off at Ecorse Rd. and turn back. Not sure how else to get to Detroit but you can’t take I-94.
Whats up with Bombadills? The signs that were put up a month ago said “we will be open in a week”. Doesn’t look like anything going on inside either.
Help is still needed on the Water Street area trail building, next Saturday, August 14th. Meet at the southeast part of the Michigan Avenue bridge, just east of downtown Ypsi. Trail work (no experience needed) will start at 8am and last until 2pm. This will be a temporary trail along the Huron River until the actual hard surface Border To Border trail goes in a few years from now. For more information, visit http://www.bordertoborder.org and click on the “Water Street” link.
I decided to turn gay about a week or so. I’ve been trying everything, but nothing seems to work. Any advice would be appreciated.
It’s a crying shame about Hitch. I’ve had issues with his politics in the past, but I’ve always liked him. He struck me as one of a dying breed – a hard drinking non-nonsense journalist who didn’t shy away from a fight. And, now, I guess he’s going to bee with the rest of them. God bless him.
The labor unions in Detroit are starting to openly talk about receivership and bankruptcy for the city in the very near future. John K Bennett’s blog, which originally started as FireJerryO.com almost a decade ago, is predicting a bankruptcy declaration just after the November election. Granted one has to take whatever they read on this blog with a grain of salt (he was predicting the Kwame indictments would be happening any day now for close to two years) but Bennett is a player in the city’s union circles and local politics, so it got my attention when he started talking about city bankruptcy.

Sitting on my couch, thinking about how Newt Gingrich is an asshole.

I went fishing this weekend. I had a great time. Now I’m sitting behind a desk, stripping of sheets of dead skin, and hating my job.
I’m reading Paul Krugman’s piece in the Sunday Times about how the fed isn’t coming in to help struggling states. He’s a piece of it:

Trying to figure out if this Sharpie liquid pencil thing is real. If it is, it’s very cool.

I’m day dreaming about having an affair.
I’m toweling off.
I’ll leave it at that.
It’s about 20 hours later, and remarkably I’m still thinking about what an asshole Newt is.
It’s not getting any better around here.

Here’s a photo of Hitch in better times.

And I’m chewing on the root of a tree.
I am presently engorged.
