two of my favorite songs

I figure this is better than no post at all tonight… Enjoy… I’m going upstairs to read “Slaughterhouse-Five.” Somehow, it seems like the right thing to do this cold and windy night. I find myself missing Vonnegut and George Harrison when I get depressed.

I can see how those songs might cheer you up if you were depressed.

ELO is the only excuse for cellos in rock.

I grew up thinking that ELO was a joke. They’re actually pretty good. Not many bands sound better with the passage of time.

I didn’t know you were such a George Harrison fan. That’s cool. I’m a fan of his too. He was one of those few artists who’s songs were so often a clear attempt to relate a supportive message to the listener. His decency shone bright in his music. It’s hard to believe six years have passed already, almost to the day, since his death.

I have a friend who insists that you cannot be depressed if you create a “Coasters” station on Pandora and listen for a while. Might be worth a try for some cheering up. Or it might push you over the edge.

“Here’s to the melancholy days we feel blue
And all life is naught but disaster
For it makes us appreciate all the more
The brightness of the morning after.”

I don’t know. Some old postcard we’ve got framed over the coffee maker. (I guess we keep hoping we’ll wake up one morning and find it’s finally the morning after.) One thing made me think of the other. Point is, I think EMO ripped that song off a postcard.

Do you mean ELO, or EMO? There’s a little bit of a difference.

You know the saying, only when it’s darkest can you see the stars.

Sorry. My bad. I’ve had a little beer. I forgot the “L”.
