I feel like an ass. I know that I should be writing about the recent escalation of Israeli military activities in Gaza, or the brutal killing of Oscar Grant by police in Oakland, and the subsequent riots there, but somehow I can’t seem to break free from YouTube. I don’t know how it happened, but, up until today, it hadn’t dawned on me that I might be able to watch episodes of Degrassi Jr. High online. And, now that I’ve realized it, I can’t stop… Man, I love that show. If it weren’t for Degrassi and the McLaughlin Group, I never would have made it through my first two years of college.
[If I were smarter, I’d figure out how to set up a special PayPal account so that all of you could contribute a few cents toward a Degrassi Fund so that I could buy Degrassi Junior High DVD collection. Seriously, if all of you just chipped in like ten cents each, I could get it. Of course, if I had it, I probably wouldn’t post as much as I do now… Which makes me think that maybe, instead of having everyone chip in ten cents, I should just approach one person who really hates this site, and see if we might be able to work something out. Surely there’s someone out there who would be willing to invest $75 to shut me up for a while.]

Heaven forbid, Mark should soil his fingers by stepping into the public library.
On another note, once I was in a far away state, talking with people from many other states, and the conversation turned to kids shows. After the usual PBS and Sat morning fare, I added, “And Mr. Dress-up!
Silence. Confusion. Odd looks. It was the first time I realized most of the U.S. grew up without receiving the dim signal of Canadian television. Currently, my daughter gets to watch Billy Bragg some morns.
Do you realize, under the new US digital broadcast stuff, border states will be missing out on Canadian TV?
The question isn’t whether we can survive without the auto industry but will we survive without the CBC?
OEC, are you telling us that the Ypsilanti Public Library will be the downfall of MM.com?

So, you mean to tell me that old Ben Franklin actually followed though on his “public” library idea?
As for my love of all things Degrassi, I should point out that part of it has do with the fact that it happened to air at about 5:00 on Saturday afternoon, right before my roommate and I would head out for the night. Let’s just say that a few Rum ‘n Cokes were involved.
What’s your paypal address thingy? I’ll happily contribute 10 cents.
I’ve heard that Derek “Wheels” Wheeler, now a drunk, is known to lash out at fans when asked about the show. (No joke.)

I watched the first minute of the video link, and it reminded me of this Twisted Sister video.

I think Canadian TV goes digital in 2011, so we’ll only be CBC-less for 2-3 years. Even at that, you can always either replug the antenna directly to your TV for some good old analog CBC viewing or (if you want to be fancy), get an analog/digital switcher to watch both without having to rewire everything every time.
