Our friend Amanda at Growing Hope has just suggested that, next Monday morning, those of us interested in local food production get together for breakfast at Beezy’s. Here’s the write-up going around through Facebook:
Bright and early on Monday morning, January 12, 7-9 am (or whenever you need to leave), we’ll meet at Beezy’s on Washington Street.
Our goal is to get folks interested in urban farming together to talk about how we can dream and scheme and work together towards a healthier, more viable Ypsi through food production– whether for sale, or sharing, or CSA, or otherwise. We also want to share with you, and get feedback on, what we’ve been dreaming up for this coming spring with our Four Square Society and getting as many folks as possible– across income levels– to grow in at least one four-by-four raised bed.
We’ve been looking at a number of newish models– mostly on the West coast– of decentralized urban farms, urban CSAs, and hire-a-farmer programs. We’ve got a whole file of them– drop a line and we’ll send it to you if you’d like to check them out. We think there are some very timely new ideas around decentralized farms that we can as a community begin to strategize about how to adapt or develop in Ypsi.
Please let us know if you plan to join us– we welcome anyone who is or wants to be an Ypsi Urban Farmer!
If you want to attend, or if you want to see who among us has already committed to showing up, you can check out the Facebook event listing here.

Sounds fascinating, but as with many such efforts it falls during the commute/workday, making attendance impossible for a lot of people who probably should be involved.
Ditto, cmadler.
I’ll be long gone for work by 7am.
There’s no such thing as organic anymore.
