drinking at sideways

Linette and I went and saw the new Alexander Payne film “Sideways” this afternoon while her parents watched Clementine. We saw it at a new theater in Canton called the Emagine. The coolest thing about the place was that they had full bar service. And there’s nothing like being able to guzzle really strong drinks at noon, during a film about a guy so taken with the grape that he upends a communal spit bucket into his mouth at a wine tasting… Word on the street is that Sideways is responsible for a nationwide run on Pinot Noir, the favorite drink of the film’s protagonist. (No word yet as to whether the film has also led to a run on “Barely Legal,” the favorite magazine of the same character.)

That would explain why I had to go to four stores this morning before I found a copy of the new March issue.
