“I’m talking about us killing the planet as a life-support system with gasoline. What’s going to happen is, very soon, we’re going to run out of petroleum, and everything depends on petroleum. And there go the school buses. There go the fire engines. The food trucks will come to a halt. This is the end of the world. We’ve become far too dependent on hydrocarbons, and it’s going to suddenly dry up. You talk about the gluttonous Roaring Twenties. That was nothing. We’re crazy, going crazy, about petroleum. It’s a drug like crack cocaine. Of course, the lunatic fringe of Christianity is welcoming the end of the world as the rapture.
I wonder what Vonnegut would have to say about the news that GW Bush is reading “The Stranger” at his ranch this summer. How bizarre and revealing.
I wonder also how the subject of absurdity and remorse/lack of remorse is being mulled over in GW’s noodle. Perhaps he could squeeze in “Slaughterhouse 5” while he is at it.
Vonnegut isn’t the kind of guy to offfer sollutions. I love him anyway though.
It’s been 20 years since I read Camus’ “The Stranger.” I can’t remember much about it. Wasn’t it the inspiration for the Cure’s “Killing an Arab”? Maybe that’s what sparked his interest…
According to his blog there was a slight mixup. Aparently our intrepid leader thought Camus was a black and white marine mammal as opposed to a French absurdist author.

Unfortunately, Rolling Stone dotcom only has about half of the article available online. Sorry.
You’d be much happier if you were a Republican. It’s simple. Just brainwash yourself.
Another Vonnegut clip worth sharing:

The ship isn’t sinking. It’s already sunk.

I’m positive the absurdity of The Stranger is completely lost on him. He’s reading it at face value.

Although this has nothing to do with the post, the mention of orcas made me think this would be worth sharing:

Yes, we could train the whales to kill Arabs!
Bush is a genius!
