the jack benny show and other old time radio now available online

This is probably only exciting news to one or two of you out there, but it’s just come to my attention (via Metafilter) that there’s an organization putting old time radio programs online, where they can be downloaded free of charge. The best part is, I just checked and they already have over 600 episodes of the Jack Benny Show. (So, if you don’t hear from me for a few days, I’m probably just exploring Jack’s vault.) And, while we’re on the subject, if you’re fan of Jack’s and if you haven’t signed the petition to get him on a 39-cent stamp yet, please take a moment and do so… In a world where everything’s so fucked up, it’s nice to just spend a warm summer evening sitting on the porch and listening to Jack Benny. You should try it.

Hey Mark, I was just about to email you this link. I’ve found that listening to old time radio cleanses the palette after watching several hours of porn. I’m listening to the very first episode of Dragnet right now.

It had never crossed my mind that you could market classic radio dramas as porn sorbet, but it makes perfect sense.

“Tired of anus and goatse, try some Amos and Andy.”

Thank you, Mark. I just listened to an episode of “Broadway Is My Beat,” and am now happier. I bless you, both you and your little opossum.

i sure do love those “self-adhesive” stamps. no more glue sticks to mess with… my DNA is far too valuable to use up on licking dirty postal stamps.

Dear God…. “Jack Benny” and “goatse” on the same page. I think some line has been crossed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for alerting me to this treasure trove! WOW! My Favorite Husband, Our Miss Brooks, The Lone Ranger . . . I’ve heard about these shows for years. Now I can hear them. But, you’re right, Jack Benny tops them all.

Didn’t Artie Auerbach play “Mr. Goatse” on the Benny show?

Mr. Kitzel fans everywhere are going to mobilize against you, Mr. Skinner. If I were you, I’d get out of the city ASAP. They’re a ruthless bunch.

I hope I didn’t ruin “pickle in the middle” for you.

Meanwhile, I’m still working my way through “Broadway Is My Beat.” I’m hooked.
