In accordance with campaign finance laws, all the candidates seeking the presidency have to report how much they’ve taken in at about this point in the year. Hillary’s campaign reported that she’d raised $26 million this quarter. Obama hasn’t come out with an official number yet, but he’s thought to have raised approximately $21 million. And, the Edward’s camp says they’ve raised $14 million. If you dig, however, it gets a little more interesting. For instance, Hillary’s total, while larger than Obama’s, represents the contributions of significantly fewer people. (83,531 gave to Obama, while only about 50,000 gave to Hillary.) And, the $14 million raised by Edwards, while quite a bit less than what was taken in by the campaigns for Obama and Hillary, is nearly twice what he’d taken in by this point in the last presidential cycle. Also, 80% of his contributions were $100 or less. Hopefully, in the days to come, we’ll see this further broken down by geography, income, sex, race, etc.. Please leave a link if you happen across anything interesting.
There’s a lot more I want to blog about tonight, but the fucking taxes are calling. Sorry.

And let’s not forget this.
There isn’t a lot of detail yet, but you should also check Open Secrets.

They say they’ll have “donor demographics” soon.
Mitt Romney won on the Republican side with $23 million. (Giuliani had $15 million.)

I also found this Daily Kos thread interesting.
And I agree that money isn’t the whole story. Unfortunately, it’s a huge part though.
Obama finally came out with a number.
$25 million!
It puts them right there neck and neck with Hillary.

Yup. And I think he said that it was from over 100,000 donors, most of whom gave under $100 each. It’s amazing.
