I’m not sure, but I think this is a continuation of the work begun earlier this summer by the Ypsilanti Health Coalition. Regardless of who’s behind it though, I think it’s a great idea, and, if I can get the old bike tuned-up and a seat for Clementine by then, I’ll be right there with them… Granted, it’s not nearly as cool as Critical Mass, but it’s a step in the right direction. (Speaking of Critical Mass, there’s a special 10th anniversary bike protest against oil-igarchy taking place this evening in San Francisco.)

It WOULD be nice to see more and NORMAL peoplle and ffamilies riding bikes in Ypsi … most folks I see on bikes are pimps dutifully chasing down their working girls, drug dealers making a timely delivery, or druggies making every attempt possible (even “borrowing” someone else’s bicycle only when absolutely necessary, of course) to keep their appointments.
Actually, come to think of it, I DID see a woman tooling around the other day, helmet and all. But she must have been from Ann Arbor, because she was riding one-handed and talking on a cell phone as she dodged into North Huron traffic. No one actually from Ypsilanti would do THAT.
I’d like to make an observation: Bikes are now more punk rock than punk rock.
You guys talking about the “BIKE” brand of jockstrap? Don’t think so.
yea! i love seeing community distribution! i made the flyer– as part of our Healthy Markets Initiative campaign to support the ypsi market and all things good in the community– and wolverbob from the health coalition– a bike guy– was leading them. i heard a number of folks went? i was out of town. i look forward to next month!
I’ll post this again on the front page, but I just wanted to make sure that it was tied in here…. A lurker just sent in the following grant opportunity:
