Clear Channel, in at least one market so far (in Florida), has apparently begun putting up ominous billboards that simply show Bush and say, “Our Leader.” The Republican party gets all up-in-arms every time someone comments on the similarities between Bush and great, evil leaders of the past, but what do they expect when their supporters are out doing stuff like this? You have to admit that it seems more than just a little Saddam-esque… And, before you start writing letters telling me how stupid I am for saying that Bush is like Hitler, do me a favor and read this post again. I didn’t say that Bush was “like Hitler.” I didn’t even suggest, as some people have, that the US is becoming a fascist state. I simply said that billboards like this one might give that impression.
Speaking of Hitler, here are a few posters that I was able to dig up. One says, “Yes, we will follow you.” Another says, “One people, one Reich, one Fuhrer.” And, another says, “Be true to the Fuhrer.” Draw your own conclusions.

Reminds me of a Woody Allen movie, but I can’t remember which one. “Sleeper,” maybe, or “Bananas.”
One man’s picture above the words “Our Leader” is just unfortunate.
Good call on the Sleepers aspect, but I was instantly hit with another refrence to science fiction, THX-1138. Has George W. Bush become OMM? Will we start to see his cheshire cat face peering at us during every waking moment?
Blah, anyways.
This looks amazingly evil to me.
Hitler’s looking pretty sassy in the “Ja!” poster.
And I think it’s nice of them to put up those “Our Leader” billboards. It would be a shame if everyone forgot. “Oh yeah! THAT guy won. Right. Almost forgot.”
I’d like to make up some posters that push the comparisons between Bush and these totalitarian leaders of the past even a little bit further. I wouldn’t go so far as to put a Hitler mustache on “our leader,” but I’d want to make it uncomfortable for those seeing it. I’d want moderate Bush supporters to see it and kind of recoil a bit. What I’m picturing is a floating Bush head (not smirking or in any way foolish looking) with the caption, “We will follow you.” Perhaps there could be a large, clean-looking (not Germanic, but more high-tech) “W” behind him. And, I would do it without any hint of irony. Yes, that’s what I’d do if I knew how to use Photoshop.
