the mavrick a-hole

Lots of people on the internet have been laughing about this picture, taken at the Republican National Convention. They all think it’s hilarious that the enthusiastic McCain supporter pictured misspelled “maverick.” Being terrible at spelling, I didn’t really notice. I thought that the image was hilarious because the fellow embellished the sign with five Vonnegutian assholes.

They seem to have put a lot of effort into the "THE" and little into the rest of the sign. Republicans seem to have the same attention span when it comes to sign making as they have when it comes to running the country.

The truth is...Palin IS the Republican presidential candidate. McCain is just the trojan horse they're using to bringing her in.

Hmmm, I mean "using to bring her in" of course. I get so excited sometimes I forget to put pants on before leaving the house.

I'm thinking about making a sign that says, "Elect The Trojan Horse" and holding it up at McCain rallies. I wonder how folks would take that.

They would love it. Republicans thrive on whiny victimhood. Wait, Democrats thrive on whiny victimhood.

I'm confused...

Actually, I'm pretty sure nobody would get it. Speaking of not getting it, I don't understand the whiny victimhood of my sign idea. I thought it would be labeled more as grassy knollyhood.

Robert, our lovable yet paranoid friend, feels as though big business wants Palin. He believes McCain is merely the rickety old shell of a horse meant to carry her past the Whitehouse gate. Once he's President, if I understand Robert, they'll figure out a way to incapacitate him so that Sarah can take the reigns, writing checks for new nukes, deathstars, and whatever else she thinks God wants us to have. As such, the sign would imply victimhood, but perhaps not in the sense that you meant, Curt.

Anyone else see the irony in a guy who's too afraid to post under his real name calling someone else "paranoid?"

The coward also can't differentiate between war profiteers and big business. And who needs to "figure out a way" to do anything? They'll be switching his medication. You can count on it.

I didn't watch the RNC, but a couple of days ago I was watching a news story which included some footage of the audience, and for a second, the camera focused on an entirely different handmade sign - a sign which also sported an identical set of Vonnegut assholes.

That's when I realized something. These two signs were obviously made by the same person. The only other possible explanation involves latent homo-erotic desires being expressed as a tendency to draw assholes, and we all know that male Republicans are as straight as they come, so that's not it.

As the footage continued, I also noticed that all the handmade signs all looked alike, and that they were all eerily coordinated to the talking points of the various speakers. And then I realized - none of the fat cats in the audience made and brought their own sign. The signs were handed out at the convention, just like the (professionally printed) signs at the DNC.

Here's the thing - I don't think the Republican party is hurting so badly that they couldn't afford to have their signs printed, so I guess this was just yet another of many efforts to appear homespun and folksy?

I wonder who really made all the signs. Swarms of Young Republicans armed with magic markers? Sweatshop laborers?
