obama needs to go on the offensive in michigan, talking about jobs

According to the “Washington Post,” John McCain is making “significant gains” in Michigan, and the battleground states of Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin. They’re calling the race in Michigan a “statistical dead heat.”

So, we’ve got our work cut out for us here… We need to start taking to the streets, talking about the economy, and reminding people that a vote for McCain won’t bring about positive change and create jobs… It’s not exactly a surprise, but this new polling data has also shown that the dominant concern of Michigan voters is the economy. Six in ten respondents in the sate said that the economy was the single most important thing they’d be basing their vote on.

The good news is, the Obama campaign is moving into the state in a big way this week. The official launch of their state headquarters was this afternoon, and over 1,300 people showed up, compared to the 200 on hand for the opening of the McCain office. And, Obama will be opening offices across Michigan this week… The grand opening of the Ann Arbor field office is this Saturday, and you’re all invited. The office is at 300 W. Liberty, and the party starts at 11:00 AM.

Oh, and you probably won’t get it in time for the party, but, if you act fast, you can get a free Obama button from MoveOn by clicking here… Of course, it will get you on the MoveOn solicitation list, but that’s a small price to pay for such a beautiful, shiny button.

The good thing about a close election is that it will force both candidates to spend time here in Michigan, listening to us, and thinking about our situation. Hopefully that will make up, at least to some degree, for the fact that we were overlooked in the primary.

Obama's grand opening is in direct conflict with the Michigan Beer Festival. Even if McCain McCain started the anti-beer campaign, if Obama's strategy is to make Michigan voters choose between him and beer, I fear a huge loss come November.

And, I did find Robb's post (the sucking sign link) worth thinking on, even if it was rather anticlamatic when it ended with him voting for it, anyway.

I thought that it was pretty well established in the 2000 primary that McCain was an unstable, illegitimate child-having, lunatic who didn't even measure up against George Bush.

This following link will take you to a most amazing article/commentary about Senator Obama and his overseas trip. It's a must read - but beware - remember to breathe occasionally or you'll pass out from laughing too much!

I hate to break the news to everyone, but Obama is the underdog in this race, no matter how the press is trying to play it. They keep talking about the polls measuring nationwide popular support. It's meaningless and deceptive. Obama is almost certain to win the popular vote. However, too much of that popular advantage is concentrated in a half dozen states that any Democrat would win this year. It's looking like Obama is going to have incredible landslide victories in California, New York, and Illinois. He might win California by as much as 30 points over McCain.

If Michigan is in play - and it is - there is a serious problem. Obama needs to essentially sweep the Great Lakes States. If anyone at the Obama camp is counting on any Rocky Mountain States or Southern States in their overall strategy, they're sunk. Sure, one of those states may make the difference, and the Republicans will have to be kept on their heels, but losing any two Great Lakes States spells disaster for Obama.

Don't buy the popular vote hype! This thing is going to be dangerously close in the Electoral College. Michigan is essential!

We surely need to proceed as though that's the case, regardless. Those of us in Michigan and Ohio need to start knocking on doors and collecting names right now.

"This thing is going to be dangerously close in the Electoral College."

If you check out pollster.com today, Obama has the necesary electoral votes already in the solid blue and leaning blue states. This doesn't even count the roughly 10 "toss up" states that are not put into either category. Perhaps it's just the bounce after his foreign policy trip, but interesting nevertheless. Still, the need is there to knock on doors and ensure Michigan stays blue.

Pollster.com has Obama at 284 electoral votes, and that's including OH,MI,IA,NM and NH (as leaning Obama). Of the 10 states they identified as tossups, I doubt Obama will win two of them. VA seems like a possibility, but like I said, I wouldn't count on it.

www.electoral-vote.com has Obama at 292 now, but that includes IN,CO,NV, and MT...state's which would be a surprise for Obama to win.

www.electionprojection.com has Obama way up at 338 but they are giving Obama FL and VA right now. Either one of those would be a huge coup for Obama, especially FL where massive electronic vote rigging has never been adressed.

It's looking like Obama might be going with Virginia Governor Tim Kaine as his running mate. This will certainly make Virginia competitive, if it wasn't enough already. It will be interesting to see if having Kaine on the ticket also helps in other southern states.

McCain will almost certainly go with a Southerner as his running mate too, in order to counter and to sure up his own chances throughout the South.

Maybe he'll just find some guy named Obam, and then our choice will be between Obama-Kaine and McCain-Obam. That joke was for the third party folks out there. Sorry, it's all I've got. I'm not a comedian.
