queen bee syndrome

Clementine asked Linette to cut her hair this weekend, and Linette did. She cut a few inches off, making it pretty much shoulder-length. Afterward, Clementine said that she liked it. Then, she said, “Maybe Jill will like me now that I have hair like Sue.”

Linette and I knew that there would be things like this to deal with one day - we were just hoping that we’d have a few more years to bolster her confidence and prepare her for the sad reality of life, which is that most people suck, and far too many get off on making others feel badly about themselves.

[The names of all children other than Clementine have been changed so as not to focus too much public scorn on the parents of the new mean girl, who has introduced the concept of the clique to a classroom of little girls who had, up until that point, played fairly nicely with one another.]

Life is pretty much like a big prison, and "Sue" is clearly the biggest one on Clementine's cell block.

Too bad the names have been changed as "Sue" rhymes with "Poo."

Lacking an obvious rhyme for her own name, this would have given Clementine a clear leg-up on the queen bee competition. (Ill Swill Jill wouldn't dare cross her.)

Phlegmenstein won't naturally surface until at least ninth grade, at which point, she'll begin to dread clearing her throat in class.

Kids are so precocious these days! Back in my day, l-sbian love triangles didn't start until at least 1st grade!

Today she told me that she likes this mean girl. I asked her why, and she said, "She wasn't mean to me today."

I want to say, "Stay away from this wicked, little brat," but I restrain myself, talking instead about how we should always treat people the way we like to be treated, etc.
