the thing with two heads and its impact on popular culture

Because I don’t feel at all like blogging tonight, you get to watch the trailer for the film “The Thing with Two Heads,” starring Ray Milland and Rosey Grier… You can even watch it repeatedly, if you like… Enjoy.

OK, here’s a summer project for one of you…. Are you ready?

Make a documentary on the filming of this movie. I think it would be absolutely incredible. I’d do it myself, but I’ve got my hands full with the blog, the unicorn heads, and all.

Lee Frost, the writer/director, passed away about a year ago, but I’m sure that Rosey Grier would talk, and I suspect that one of Ray Milland’s kids must still be kicking around, as well as several people who worked on the set. I’m sure there have to be incredible stories about how the film came together, the motivations of all those involved, etc.

Here’s something I bet you didn’t know… Toward the end of his life, in 1986, Ray Milland actually approached Rosie Grier and asked if he could have his head sutured onto the former football player’s shoulder. (Milland, I’m told, was in negotiations with OJ Simpson when he passed away, having been rebuffed by Grier.)

OK, I made that up. Here’s something that is true, though. Rosie Grier helped subdue Sirhan Sirhan after the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Seriously. (Milland, I don’t believe, was involved in any way.)

One of my first memories is watching this with my father on the CBS late movie. I think it was a definitive point in my life.
