This evening, I got confirmation from the good folks at Big Ten Burrito that they are on-board for this summer’s Shadow Art Fair. They’ll be donating two of their BTB party busses, and the vegetable oil that they run on. All we have to do is pay their drivers for their time, which I’m confident that we’ll be able to do from SAF donations. So, what this means for you is that, between 6:00 PM and midnight, you’ll be able to park downtown, and take the party bus, for free, between multiple venues. And, as we’ll have two running, making the same short loop around downtown, I don’t imagine anyone will have to wait longer than 10 minutes to be picked up…
Anyway, I’m working on the bus route tonight. I suck at making maps, and plotting courses, but here’s what I’ve got so far. It’ll clearly have to be redone by someone much more talented than myself for our flyers and such, but it should give you some idea as to what we’ve got in mind. The red stars indicate venues where activities will be taking place on July 10, during the Shadow. As I mentioned the other night, these are the Corner Brewery, the Elbow Room, Dreamland Theater and SPUR Studios. And, the green rectangles indicate public parking. The little blue arrows show the route that I’m suggesting the busses take. If you have thoughts on how it can be done more economically, let me know. I believe, however, that this is the most efficient way, given that we want to obey laws concerning one-way streets and the like.
And I hope to be posting something soon on the schedule of activities at each of these venues. So, stay tuned.

Hopefully, this will also alleviate some of the parking issues that we’ve had at the Corner during previous Shadows.
Should the shuttle stop at the parking lots, or can we expect people to walk to the Elbow Room stop?
It might make more of a loop if, instead of taking Forest both to and from the Brewery, you got there by going over on Cross and up River.
I’d say one downtown stop that covers the Dreamland and the Elbow Room would be enough since they’re only a block from each other.
Be sure the wait time is long enough for people to smoke too.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a good idea, as the audiences may not overlap, but I believe both Elvisfest and something called the Stockyard Stomp are taking place that Saturday. The Stockyard thing is happening out of town, so it’s probably not as applicable.
Former City Planner Richard Murphy had a few suggestions.
Now I’ve got to think about how, if at all, to mark the stops. It would be cool if we could do temporary signs of some kind.
And, yeah, Andy, I think we could get away with one stop on Michigan Ave. I think it might be cooler, though, if the bus dropped people right at the Elbow. That way, people would be more likely to see it, I think… Still, it’s worth considering.
As for Elvisfest, I don’t know that a stop makes sense, but it would be cool to get an Elvis impersonator on the bus.
Definitely mark the stops. With signage, not territorially. I have ideas for signage, I’d be happy to help with that task.
I’d like to see Elvis impersonators on the bus. It also might be fun to have a magician. And maybe a prostitute.
