Robot Ape, I’m scared of swine flu. The vaccine won’t be ready until October, I don’t have asthma, I’m between the age of 24 and 65, I fly frequently, and don’t know what to do. Should I stock-up on hand sanitizer? Should I wear a mask? Should I stock up on Mommie’s Soul Food and board up my windows?
Surely you must know of someone eligible for the vaccination. Maybe a grandparent or a small child. Just take them for their shot, wait approximately 4 hours, and drink their blood. All of it, if possible. You should be fine.

The Michigan Ladder Co., on E. Forest, had painted color patches of the building for years. It good to see they finally picked one and painted. They seemed to have painted the sidewalk too. They even signed the sidewalk as if it were a painting.

I used to have a recurring dream almost every night for years, wherein my mom sent me back to highschool — even though I knew in the dream that I was way too old to be in highschool, and that I’d already graduated anyway, I couldn’t bring myself to just walk out.
The swine flu vaccination is significantly more likely to give you Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) than prevent your death from the flu.
GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal. Adjuvants (chemicals added to vaccines to stimulate inflammation) have been linked to chronic auto-immune diseases.

Also, I saw over the weekend that there’s a new art gallery on Washington St. in the old DDA store front. Earth Arts or something like that, the name escapes me at the moment, but I talked with the owners for a bit and they said they’re looking for emerging artists and art work to put on display and for sale. He promises 100% to go to the artist.

Anyone know what the deal is with the “Silent Cat” bar/restaurant on the corner by Haab’s? I peeked in the window the other day and it looked like it was ready for business…
I haven’t looked through the windows in a few months, so I don’t know if there’s been any progress. Linette and I ate there when it was an Italian restaurant, though. They had a little bar with about three stools. The food wasn’t great. The place has had the “Silent Cat” signage up for about three years now. Maybe it’s finally going to happen.

the new gallery has lots of potential to add a fun mix of artists to the downtown offerings. i like his business model of renting the wall or display space for a modest amount of money ($60/month) rather than taking a 30+% commission on sales.

EOS - Is the 2009 vaccine linked to Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
This is one comment the CDC had about GBS - In 1976, a type of influenza vaccine was associated with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Since then, influenza vaccines have not been clearly linked to GBS. However, if there is a risk of GBS from seasonal influenza vaccines, it would be no more than approximately 1 additional case per million persons vaccinated.
