I’m doubtful that anything will happen tomorrow, but I suppose it’s a good thing that people are at least talking about the growing income disparity in America and the government’s role in making it happen.
The following comes from Gary Roland, who is planning tomorrow’s protest in New York City’s financial district:
WHEN:
Occupation begins June 14th, 2011 at 1pm until all resolutions of the camp are accepted by the two party corporate establishment.WHY:
The two party corporate establishment has created the hegemony of the left-right paradigm, to consolidate power into the hands of a minority and continually exploit the majority of the people by distracting them from the fact that they indeed have common interests. Our elections are decided by contrived wedge issues that give the impression of choice, when in reality both candidates are interchangeable, both representing the further consolidation of power into the hands of the minority. This corruption has been institutionalized through the campaign finance/lobbying racket, where our politicians are regularly bought and sold by powerful interests. This action is intended to create a safe ‘camp’ in which a new discourse of cooperation, inclusion and generosity will replace the outdated discourse of conflict, division and greed that the left-right paradigm represents.WHAT:
On June 14th at 1pm, free thinking citizens (aka campers or indignants) will occupy Zuccotti Park (14971 Broadway, New York, NY 1007) in the Financial District of New York City indefinitely, to express non-violent dissent to the further consolidation of wealth into the hands of international corporations by the corrupted two party oligarchy, and develop through the exchange of ideas a new political discourse to unify those who have been exploited. The action will be done in Solidarity with similar camps that have sprung up in Tahrir Square, Puerta Del Sol, Syntagma Square, and countless other squares around Europe and the World. We recognize that since the consolidators of power who actively exploit the majority of the people are international corporations, that it will require an international effort of indignants (those who are feed up with the rampant predatory exploitation) to decentralize this power and return it to the people.

For what it’s worth, I found the following comment, left by someone somewhere about the Federal Reserve to be interesting… “the federal reserve is a dangerous institution with virtually no oversight, and no responsiblity to Americans. the actions it takes add to the federal deficit yet are not approved by congress, and therefore not by the american people. it is designed to allow supply side policies with no opposition”
Turkey just announced the arrest of 32 members of Anonymous… I wonder if the timing was coincidental.
Looks like if I want to visit the green market at Zuccotti Park today, I’ll have to go over before 1pm. It’s only there on Tuesdays. This might also increase the line at the Alan’s Falafel food cart. Thanks for the warning.

This might mean something in a country where people pay attention and give a shit. I predict that fewer than 100 people show up to participate in the New York protest, and it doesn’t get any coverage in the lame stream media. Hopefully I’m wrong.
I have a meeting at 1 so I cannot check out the beginning of the protest. I might be able to go over later in the afternoon. I predict the number of protestors to be less than the number of foreign tourists asking where Century 21 is.

When you say that they’re looking for “Century 21”, do you mean they’re looking to buy real estate in NYC, or is there a disco called Century 21?
Off topic, but what’s up with every post on the blog now getting its own twitter post? My feed is being swamped.
Century 21 is a store selling discounted designer merchandise. I had never heard of it before moving to New York City, but everyone visiting from Europe seems to know about it. I think it’s a bigger tourist draw than the WTC site next to it.
My meeting was postponed. I went down to Zuccotti Park at 1:05 and it was the usual array of people eating lunch. There was a small group of people at one corner of the park that may have been the protestors, they looked like a combination of hippie and hipster. One had a big professional video camera and another had a rolled up exercise mat. But as of 1:15 nothing was going on.
Anonymatt: That’s OK, Tiananmen Square is also a rectangle, and Tahrir Square is a circle with some protrusions!
So, have they started eating bankers yet? I’m flipping stations, hoping to see footage of fat cat finance guys being cooked alive on spits, but I’m not seeing anything.
