Can anyone confirm that the Elbow Room has once again closed its doors?

elbowclosed2011

According to my friend Andy, there’s a sign on their door that says, “closed until sold.” If anyone has details, I’d love to hear them.

What ever happened with the lawsuit that the owner of the Elbow Room brought against Andy Garris? Was it thrown out?

scuttle but: yes they are closed, scheduled shows are moved to Live @ PJ’s in Ann Arbor. Fail. I hope Red Rock opens soon and still plans to have music. It would also be nice if there were shows at the Tap Room, but I gather they’re not really interested in anything that’s not blues or covers.

Any word as to what’s the latest status of the closed, Pub-13, Savoy/Devine, etc Dave Curtis businesses?
Anybody have any info on what Curtis is up to now?

    Thank you,

If all the readers of MM.com contributed $50,000, we could buy the Elbow Room.

    Mr. X,

Do you have info on Mr. Curtis venture in Jackson or is it just in the early stages of happening?

The really sad part of this is that I didn’t know it ever reopened.

I recall seeing Pub 13 listed for sale at around $550k. I’m too lazy to find the listing again though.

Yep, mismanaged and closed again. Word is the recent guy running got busted by the LCC for being drunk and now can’t own a liqour license, so he got tossed out by the owner. Can’t blame them. Seems the place was starting to ramp up pretty decently. The previous mgr garris was busted for embezzelment of over 300k, he will soon be in the slammer.

Again on Craig’s List, this time with the following enticement:
The liquor license could be used anywhere in the county, but this is a package deal. How about 2 businesses???
Open another establishment in AA with the license and rent out the Ypsi. location.

    I don’t think that’s how it works.

Buried in a Concentrate story about the live music scene that came out today is a mention of the fact that Elbow Room is reopening. Here’s the paragraph in question. (The Garris quoted is Andy Garris, the owner of Woodruff’s.)

“When fewer people go to shows it’s easier for smaller venues to carry nights,” says Garris. “If we get 40 people out on a Tuesday night it’s still a great atmosphere. Live music is growing in Ypsilanti. I hear Red Rock will have live music. The Elbow Room is reopening. I’d love it if we could ultimately build to a level where we have enough successful venues for local acts to play so we don’t have to give them away to the Crofoot or Detroit.”
