Kendrick Meek’s campaign ad is the best thing I’ve seen all day

I try to stay as far away from Florida politics as I possibly can, but I just happened across this wonderful campaign ad by Congressman Kendrick Meek, and I felt compelled to pass it along. Meek, the only Democrat in a three person race for Senate, is way down in the polls, but I suspect that he’ll gain some ground with this unbelievably positive campaign ad. At least, I can’t image that flip-flopping political opportunist Charlie Crist can continue polling at 40% once Democratic voters realize that there’s a viable alternative to the until-recently-Republican in the race. (Meek is currently polling at about 17%.) Anyway, here’s the ad. Let me know what you think.

Maybe it’s not that great of an ad. Maybe I’m just burned out from all the negative ads I’ve seen over the last decade. Maybe I just like that there’s no ominous music, and shadowy figures shot in black and white. Maybe that comes later, though. Maybe this is just phase-one. Maybe, once Crist is out of the race, Meek will turn into your typical fear-mongering asshole, but, as of right now, I just like the novelty of someone saying he’s proud to be a Democrat.

i love the way he speaks and his language. “i’m the only one who can approve this message.”

he focuses on how he’s different. i hope he’s not lying!

    I’d vote for him.

And “like a much taller, handsomer and friendlier Kucinich” would make a great bumper sticker.

Hilarious, Robert! No, Mark, you don’t need to back off a bit. It IS a great ad. It’s incredibly refreshing and very heartening to see a Democrat embrace the things that actually make me want to vote for Democrats. Go Kendrick!

Meek has been one of the “30 something” Democrats for a while and is so impressive when this small group takes to the House floor (evenings after everyone else has left) to discuss pressing issues–with conviction, confidence, hope, passion, eloquence, heartening affection for one another, and even humor. Back in the Bush years it was one of the few uplifting things to watch on C-SPAN. Can watch via C-SPAN archives.

I’d love to have a candidate here at home that I was excited to vote for. I like Levin alright, but I don’t burst with excitement at the thought of him representing me. Sure, I think he’s a good, solid guy, who generally lands on the right side of the issue, but he doesn’t…

Mark I don’t think politician are generally something to get excited about. Vote for Levin based on his record not on how fun loving he can be. If you want to get excited about someone, try Justin Bieber.

Apparently what resonates with us does not resonate with American voters. Meek is polling at a mere 15 points today. Word is that Clinton and others are urging Meek to drop out of the three man race, throwing his votes over to former Republican, Charlie Crist.

Mark, Levin is just the kind of politician we need to keep representing us. Excitement is about the right choice and that person winning.
