on my immense political power

I just got an email from someone at Blog Net News informing me that, according to their impressive array of algorithms, MM.com is the 10th most influential political blog in the state of Michigan. (I suspect I come in a lot higher on the ball shaving index, but they didn’t share that information.) I have absolutely no idea what this means exactly. I suspect, however, that because of it, candidates other than John Edwards will start calling me as the 2008 election draws near. We’ll see… And, who knows, maybe now the Gore people will take my offer to run their Michigan campaign a little more seriously. (Hmmmm…. With that in mind, maybe I should go back and erase that reference to my anti-ball shaving campaign. That could, I guess, be spun as a bad thing by the Republicans.)

And, yes, there is some shame in being beaten by a site that only updates about once a week. Perhaps it’s time for me to ramp up the snark factor and start playing hardball.

And, maybe, now people will start getting my name right.

(Thanks to Jim for the link.)

I was disappointed to see that my blog, Mark Maynard Watch, didn’t make the top 20. I think there is a pro-Mark Maynard bias in the Michigan media.

Mark Maynard of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has the domain MarkMaynard.NET where he’s posted a personal web page. Seems like a decent enough guy. I checked out his site, and HE doesn’t mention ball-shaving once.

The ClustrMap he has added to his site shows that he’s getting more traffic visiting his site from the Ypsilanti, Michigan area than any other part of the world. I wonder if he’s ever noticed that and wondered why.

You know Mark, you may be inadvertently screwing up Milwaukee politics. Maybe you should think ’bout that, Mr.Big Shot.

Shooting for Gore might be a bit ambitious, but maybe with this new clout we could get Levin, Dingel or Conyers to drop in and answer a few questions.

    Number 10?!

Am I the only reader who believes the issues facing our state, nation and world are too important to waste time commenting on a tenth rate blog?

See you all at Our Michigan!

Sorry Mark, I guess I just thought you were more popular than that…

You mean you weren’t playing hardball when you had the Ypsi Dixit killed?

I just learned that Ypsi Dixit was the name of the Ypsilanti High School yearbook of yore. Is that STILL the name?

And where the #$@& is she!?

BTW … MarkMaynard.com should add its name to the list of contributors of 10% of its revenues to the City along with Look In The Attic and others. Nice spirit … WETG Attic!

Nothing like the smell of fresh cash to get a City all excited about spending it. Let see … where will it go? I’ll be at the Michigan Avenue bridge around six to watch it float away. I hope I’m terribly disappointed.

Did you refuse to make a financial contribution to Blog Net News? They dropped you from their top 20. You were at #9, and then poof!

Blog Net News is full of it. I checked the traffic on the sites they have ranked above you, and only a couple of them have been getting the amount of traffic markmaynard.com has been getting. How can they be judged as more ‘influential’?

I was excited to see that the traffic at this site has been going up considerably since May. In fact, July and August appear to have been the best months ever. That’s especially impressive when you consider how crappy the content has been over the last few months.

I think I owe you at least another enchilada. I completely destroyed your net traffic for September with all my stupid comments and hostile behavior. I’ll be switching my strategy now. My “Jerry Springer” approach failed miserably. I think I’ll do thoughtful and considerate, and see how that works.

Maybe it was that you weren’t enough of an asshole, Robert. Have you considered that?

I suggest you go “Total, Balls-Out Asshole” for a week and see how it goes.

Thank you TheoG, for your kind words of support. You know, I actually DIDN’T consider the possibility that I wasn’t being enough of an asshole. It didn’t even occur to me that I could be a bigger asshole than I was being. I might give your suggestion a try, and see if I can really dig deep for that “over-the-top” asshole those of you who believe in me feel I can yet muster.

Bless you for believing in me…and really just for noticing my mindless and obnoxious ramblings here on poor Mark’s site. I’ve been trying hard to dumb-down this thing for months, and running into nothing but resistance. I think Mark may even have developed a comment filtering process to protect against the A-bomb-like comment he sees coming from me inevitably.

I’ll probably have to hold off for a few weeks before I try that “Total, Balls-Out Asshole” approach. I’ll first need to sit down with Mark, and watch him eat those enchiladas I owe him. After that, I’m pretty sure I’ll be pissed off enough to proceed.
