The party of imagined bravery and craven victimhood

Eugene Robinson asks a great question in today’s Washington Post… “When did the loudmouths of the American right become such a bunch of fraidy-cats and professional victims?” Here’s a clip:

…The thing is, though, that the manufactured brouhaha over the Park51 project is part of a larger pattern in which the far right embraces victimhood and [...]

Racism at Ground Zero, and the role of FOX

There was apparently a big protest yesterday, around the corner from the site of the former World Trade Center. Crazed, middle-aged, white people, emboldened by the likes of FOX News and Sarah Palin, had taken to the streets to show their displeasure over plans to build a 13-story Muslim community center in Lower Manhattan. And, [...]

Ground Zero bullshit

I want to write something tonight about the so-called “ground zero” mosque. I say so-called because it’s actually a few blocks from where the World Trade Center once stood, but that doesn’t seem to deter people, even on the left, from calling it the “ground zero” mosque, like it’s a giant mosque being built triumphantly [...]

Race, Wrongs, and Remedies

I don’t talk a lot about “personal responsibility” on this site. To do so, I think, makes me sound like a Tea Bagger. The truth is, though, I don’t think the government has the power, try as it might, to eradicate poverty. I think they can, and should, put safety nets in place, but, at [...]

Attacks in Virginia and Ohio attributed to Flint serial killer

According to authorities, it looks as though we have a white male serial killer - perhaps operating out of Michigan - that’s targeting black men. The following comes from the Washington Post:

A white man who stabbed or attacked three dark-skinned men in Leesburg this month is probably the “Flint serial killer,” thought to have killed [...]

My weekend in Milwaukee

I’ve spent the last several days in Milwaukee, visiting museums, eating deep fried cheese curds, touring incredible breweries, attending fish fries, and absorbing local culture by the pint-full. I’d like to break everything down, and give you a minute-by-minute recounting of my activities in this, one of my favorite cities in America, but my memories [...]

Primary election results… and killing time with Howard Stern

I’m killing time, listening to old Howard Stern bits, while elections results are being tabulated.

For those of you who didn’t grow up in the New York area, here’s the context for Cookie Puss, who figures prominently in the above clip.
Update: It looks like Rick Snyder blew away Pete Hoekstra and Mike Cox in the Republican [...]

Big Brother, growing by leaps and bounds, with no end in sight

I wanted to write about the quick, little vacation down south that I just returned from, but I seem to have gotten myself engrossed in this article in the Washington Post about the Homeland Security monster that we’ve gone and created. And now I don’t feel like doing much of anything, other than closing my [...]
