End of the World Open Thread

I have not died. I have, however, moved on to a better place… at least temporarily. The internet at our house has been down for the past several days, so I’ve been staying away from the news, and going to bed early. And, after 18 years of obsessive nighttime workaholism and OCD-driven blogging, I’m finding it really nice to just lay around and read from my long-neglected Agatha Christie library. Still, tough, I can’t stop thinking about you. And, with that in mind, I wet out early this morning to find enough wifi to put up an open thread, so that you can start discussing whatever it is that’s happening in the world right now, as I’m at home listening to old time radio programs with my son, imaging that the world isn’t really coming to an end.

The Media continues to misinform people about the trumpvirus. We have known since March (thanks to The Chinese sharing everything they know about the virus) that the virus can survive on surfaces including cardboard for hours, and in the right environment foe days. Despite growing evidence that the virus survives on frozen food packaging, the media keeps repeating that you cant get the virus from eating contaminated food. The class bias of the news is obvious. Rich people dont handle packaging as packing, warehouse, distribution , or food prep workers—the very folks who get exposed.
The death cult does not care about working folks. Sanitize your frozen packaging before handling.

Lynne. Viruses do not have cell membranes so cold does not really effect them. Read something the other day that they discovered some 6000 year old virus in ice cores.

Yes wobblie, had I stopped to think about it, I would have realized that since I do know that it is possible to freeze viruses. The good news is that you can’t catch COVID from *eating* contaminated food but you can catch it by handling the packaging. This is, of course, why it is important to not only make PPE available to workers who handle packages but also it is important to require them to use it!

    Lynne,

Why do you think it is not possible to get COVID if you put it in your mouth? Because if you handle contaminated packaging, you wouldn’t be infected through the skin on your hands, but by touching your mouth or eyes.

And if we give workers gloves to wear while handling packages, it won’t be of any use if they use their gloved hands to adjust their mask or scratch their eyes.

The PPE used just gives the wearer a false sense of security. I have family members who actually think they are safe when they wear a bandana or cloth mask over their mouth and nose and stay 6 feet away from others. The people who work with lethal viruses in the lab use a glove box to keep it contained and still wear biohazard suits with bubbles over their heads supplying purified air.

    Wobblie,

It is not possible for humans to contain and crush the virus. It will eventually run its course. Individuals are free to take whatever means they deem necessary to avoid infection or to prepare for the afterlife. Do you think Biden will be able to protect you from his basement? Why would anyone stake their life on a politician?

  18. Posted August 14, 2020 at 12:59 pm | Permalink

EOS: “It is not possible for humans to contain and crush the virus. It will eventually run its course.”

“Eventually” is the key word in your statement. The time the virus takes to run through the population is extremely variable depending upon how the situation is handled.

The spread of the virus can be slowed significantly and without shutting down the economy. Slowing the virus’ spread through the population keeps medical personnel and facilities from being overwhelmed. When they are overwhelmed, more people die than would otherwise.

  19. EOS

You can slow the spread of virus for a time, but when people leave their isolation to get food or otherwise live their lives, it spreads again. And the isolation itself is harmful.

I have read that China slowed the spread of the virus by locking exposed persons in their homes and by incinerating infected persons alive. It’s a lot harder to contain in a free society.

False. Other countries have successfully been keeping their economies functioning for the most part while also flattening the curve enough to prevent their health care systems from being overwhelmed.

Isolation is not necessary for anyone but the vulnerable populations, as you have correctly pointed out.

But the elderly, who tested positive and had a poor prognosis, were thrown into the incinerator along with anyone else who protested their treatment.

Mao killed more persons than the number of persons who died in all the wars in the history of the world. And those who survived paid homage to their Great Leader. My contempt for these practices has nothing to do with their race. As I said before, not everybody classified people according to their “kind”. Communism is a horrific form of government. I did go out to a restaurant a couple of times several weeks ago when it looked like our cases had dropped enough for that activity to be safe as long as masks were required and I was seated outside. Cases have risen since then so I am just doing delivery now. I have the driver drop the food off on my porch so I am never in contact with them. My routine is to bring the food inside and then remove it from the bag/packaging. Then I throw the packaging away and wash my hands before I start to eat. I don’t go to the grocery store either and have a similar routine with putting away my groceries.

Your argument that it is a miniscule number of votes affected out of the total is garbage. In a competitive race it only takes the number of votes needed to decide the election. That could be any number down to 1.

The death cult is grasping at straws. The Durham investigation is a big yawn, AGs around the country are organizing to protect mail in voting. The Don himself is voting by mail in Florida, anything to distract from the utter incompetence.

That’s a stupid comparison. You have to deal with the fact of dem election fraud. I’ve already put up several examples of dems caught red-handed. As I said and you ignored the lastest Philly case involves three different primary races. Flipped or not it’s criminal just like in the other cases.

  77. Posted August 15, 2020 at 5:07 pm | Permalink

No numbers. No substance. Just shit-talking.

The way to deal with rare crimes is to have in place effective security measures and aggressive forensic accounting. Your clownish role-model isn’t doing any of that, mainly because it isn’t his motive. His motive is criminal.

You’re a dumbass who has no ground to stand on, and your idiot role-model is bringing more attention to his criminal intent. Removing mail sorting machines so as to disrupt delivery is already pushing more people away from supporting him. He’s an idiot, and you are his mindless parrot.

Even if races were unaffected it would still be just as bad of a crime for those who committed it.

  81. Posted August 15, 2020 at 7:39 pm | Permalink

Of course the crime is very bad and should be punished severely. That’s one of the reasons an astronomically small number of people have ever attempted it.

The effective way to reduce those already very small numbers to zero, or as close to zero as possible, is to institute even more safeguards.

Having additional safeguards put into place isn’t what your role-model is doing. The reason he isn’t is because doing so would not serve his intent. In fact it may work counter to his intent. His intent is obviously to undermine the entire system.

    118,000,000+ votes in 2018 general

313,600,000+ Total of these three presidential votes

If there were 1,000 votes fraudulently cast in those three elections combined, we’d divide that 1,000 by 313,600,000 and get a product of 0.00000319

    That’s astronomically small.

How many votes were fraudulently cast in those three elections? Trump’s Commission on Voter Fraud didn’t find enough to even issue a report for propaganda purposes.

    For you EOS
Well, I was feelin’ sad and feelin’ blue
I didn’t know what in the world I was gonna do
Them Communists they was comin’ around
    They was in the air
    They was on the ground
    They wouldn’t gimme no peace
So I run down most hurriedly
And joined up with the John Birch Society
I got me a secret membership card
And started off a-walkin’ down the road
    Yee-hoo, I’m a real John Bircher now
    Look out you Commies
Now we all agree with Hitlers’ views
Although he killed six million Jews
It don’t matter too much that he was a Fascist
At least you can’t say he was a Communist
That’s to say like if you got a cold you take a shot of malaria
Well, I was lookin’ everywhere for them gol-darned Reds
I got up in the mornin’ ‘n’ looked under my bed
Looked in the sink, behind the door
Looked in the glove compartment of my car
    Couldn’t find ’em
I was lookin’ high an’ low for them Reds everywhere
I was lookin’ in the sink an’ underneath the chair
I looked way up my chimney hole
I even looked deep inside my toilet bowl
    They got away
Well, I was sittin’ home alone an’ started to sweat
Figured they was in my T.V. set
    Peeked behind the picture frame
Got a shock from my feet, hittin’ right up in the brain
    Them Reds caused it
I know they did, them hard-core ones
Well, I quit my job so I could work alone
Then I changed my name to Sherlock Holmes
Followed some clues from my detective bag
And discovered they was red stripes on the American flag
    That ol’ Betty Ross
Well, I investigated all the books in the library
Ninety percent of ’em gotta be bur
    ned away
I investigated all the people that I knowed
Ninety-eight percent of them gotta go
The other two percent are fellow Birchers, just like me
Now Eisenhower, he’s a Russian spy
Lincoln, Jefferson and that Roosevelt guy
To my knowledge there’s just one man
That’s really a true American, George Lincoln Rockwell
I know for a fact he hates Commies ’cause he picketed the movie Exodus
Well, I fin’ly started thinkin’ straight
When I run outta things to investigate
    Couldn’t imagine doin’ anything else
So now I’m sittin’ home investigatin’ myself
Hope I don’t find out anything, hm, great God

Under state law, the precinct may not be recounted if the container isn’t sealed properly and the number on the seal doesn’t match the one recorded in the poll book. Also, the number of ballots in the container must match the recorded total. If the container isn’t sealed or the numbers don’t match, the precinct may not be recounted.

    The First Beast

13 And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. 2 And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. 4 And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”

5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling,[a] that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them.[b] And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation, 8 and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear:

10 If anyone is to be taken captive,
    to captivity he goes;
if anyone is to be slain with the sword,
with the sword must he be slain.
Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.

The first indictment by Durham and the implications are major. Obama knew, all the suspects I named long ago knew. It’s going up the ladder, watch. You are already catching up to the other derps in the amount of egg on your face.

HW: “The President has been toying with you. He is in fact the master of trolling and I think that is great. You have fallen for every false leak, every feigned weakness, every major narrative that spun out for years and went nowhere because it was nothing.”

It really doesn’t make any sense that you can’t tell how limited Trump is emotionally and intellectually. He demonstrates it almost constantly, and in extraordinary ways.

I thought before that maybe you were pretending you couldn’t tell. Just because it really doesn’t seem possible. But you’ve made it clear that you are somehow unable to discern what is actually very obvious in his behavior and words.

You don’t seem able to process what you observe and learn which is contrary to your perspective. It is just dismissed out of hand in your mind. It’s very odd.

  138. Posted August 16, 2020 at 12:29 pm | Permalink

To consider Trump capable of toying with anyone effectively is beyond basic observable reality. He’s a terrible mess. He makes it all very apparent. He can’t seem to control simple impulses.

He clearly was installed in the office by people with a plan to have him take the fall. He seems to have been tricked into everything every step of the way.

To imagine him as some sort of mastermind is beyond bizarre. He’s probably one of the least mysterious personalities anyone would ever observe.

There is a world of shit happening above your level of awareness. It is illustrated by your recent posts on Durham versus the reality of this indictment coming out so soon after.

It looks like it does to you because you never activated any higher mental circuits or got out of the mass trance that so many are waking up from today. Lots and lots more good things to come for me and for everyone. Even you. Perhaps one day we will meet under very different circumstances and you will apologize for turning into a piece of shit there for a while and we will laugh.

You were just talking about that a few days ago, droning on and on about what “would happen” if there was anything to it. You said it has been too long for it to be anything. I said they have been building a massive case on a bunch of people, many of whom I have named for years.

Now Kevin Clinesmith of the FBI is to plead guilty to altering data used to get a FISA authorization to spy on Carter Page, which was used to spy on everyone he had contact with. I think he is the first of many to fall in the Durham criminal investigation and that numerous Obama appointees are on deck.

If I turn out to be correct then you are fucked, right? Kinda seeming to be going that way with a guilty plea in my favor or no? Maybe that’s fake news and he will plead not guilty and there will be discovery and you be even more fucked. Either way it kicks ass for me.

Carter Page turns out to be a CIA agent or asset working to spy on Russia. FBI lawyer Clinesmith changed the 302 to omit that fact. BOOM!!! There was a shit ton of shit talk to the contrary by a number of people here. I got it right. EOS got it right. Frosted Flakes got it right.

All you corrosive idiots got it wrong, wrong, wrong as ALWAYS. How can you deny the unerring pattern now? Get ready for a lot more and bigger booms. Get ready to go on the ‘your own words’ diet exclusively because you are not going to have room for much else.

I wonder if the alternative to pleading guilty and probably co-operating with the investigation was to be tried for treason? I’d say treason is correct given that the altered Page 302 was done to enable the effort to frame a candidate and a President with unreliable at best and realistically known to be false foreign (Russian-sourced) information.

Let me style on you some more: “Not exhaustive” list with voluminous examples of vote/election fraud.

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/whitehouse.gov/files/docs/pacei-voterfraudcases.pdf

  145. Posted August 16, 2020 at 5:45 pm | Permalink

As I said, HW, 1,000 examples of fraudulent votes among the 313,000,000+ total votes in just the three elections (2016 Primaries, 2016 General, and 2018 General) would give you a fraud rate of 0.00000319

The list of incidents of fraud on the White House site goes back through decades of elections. So imagine the total number we’d come up with by adding every ballot cast in every election (of every level) going back decades. That number would be in the billions.

I see the list also includes many election fraud cases which didn’t involve ballots. They include incidents involving petition forgeries and such.

It’s good to see the punishments for committing any sort of fraud associated with elections tend to be tough.

  146. Hyborian Warlord
    Posted August 16, 2020 at 6:12 pm | Permalink

But as I pointed out already more than once the rate doesn’t matter. The races affected are what matters.

It stands to reason that the fraud that has been caught is only the tip of the iceberg anyway. Kind of hard to detect a lot of election fraud, let alone prosecute I am sure. Your calculation is not the real rate just like the different mortality rates aren’t the real rates. Those are all stupid things to verbally attack someone over. You wanted numbers. Now you have a crapload of numbers to mull over for a while. It’s not like that’s all there is though. The document itself explains that.

  147. Hyborian Warlord
    Posted August 16, 2020 at 6:19 pm | Permalink

You are blurring the cases of official misconduct and voters to the point of meaninglessness also. All the different behaviors do not belong in your equation. Election fraud by officials is worse than individuals pulling a fast one I think. I thought you agreed with that based on your rather extreme and punitive reaction (I thought) to the Michigan case. So if you do agree then don’t try to smush it all into a stupid equation like that.

  148. Posted August 16, 2020 at 8:53 pm | Permalink

I was just pointing out that the list of fraud cases was from a period going back decades. I even saw that one case was from 1948. And going back decades would dramatically increase the total number of ballots cast. Just for the three elections I added up there were over 313,000,000 ballots cast. That was the combined total for the 2016 Presidential Primary and General, and the 2018 General. Those numbers suggest the total number of ballots cast over the past few decades is a few billion. This is why fraud can be said to be a very rare occurrence.

It should also be mentioned that the President’s actions in slowing the postal service down for the purpose of limiting mail-in voting would fall within the definition of illegal interference in an election. The proper response to concerns about security would be to institute addition safeguards.

    Posted August 16, 2020 at 9:50 pm | Permalink

If the outcome of many elections are affected by fraud then your little number doesn’t mean much does it? I don’t think the number of votes that have been verified to be fraudulent is an adequate metric for reasons I have already given.

The virus spreads exponentially and that process of press is natural.

Incidents of fraud in elections is a very different sort of phenomenon. It isn’t a natural phenomenon which multiplies itself organically. It’s a spasm which runs counter to many strong discouraging factors. Ethics and the threat of punishment being the two most obvious ones.

Tests for COVID-19 only reveal a portion of the likely cases. Suggesting that dynamic is akin to what we can extrapolate regarding voter fraud is a complete mismatch. There’s no similarity between the two systems.

  153. Posted August 17, 2020 at 5:46 am | Permalink

HW: “If the outcome of many elections are affected by fraud then your little number doesn’t mean much does it?”

Only in those extremely rare cases where it has happened. You’d need to provide a comprehensive statistic showing incidents where the fraud potentially flipped the outcome of races. Otherwise what you’re saying is purely conjecture.

You are hiding behind the covert nature of fraud. Very very very fucking obviously only a small portion of election and voter fraud will be caught. As prevalent as we know for a fact it is by convictions is enough to know it is a serious problem. I have put up plenty enough evidence of that.

Another BLM killing as victim dies. The suspect, caught on video delivering the fatal blow complains all he did was fight the man.

No. He came up from behind someone he had already forced to sit down on the street and kicked him in the head. Leg hits face, head hits pavement; pretty good chance of death. I can think of more than one instance of that happening in the Ypsi-Arbor area.

People need to think about that before literally fighting in the street. You might get erased if they fight back or you might erase someone when you meant to just fuck them up. Then you have to pay. Should be some degree of murder. Obviously it was deadly force.

Most telling were the trees. Most of the pines that sheltered this community still had their canopies intact. The needles, yellowed from the intense heat, were not burned — evidence that the winds that morning had pushed the fire along so fast it never had a chance to rise into the trees. But as a surface fire, it lit up the homes that lay in its path.

“Our perception is that this wall of fire comes through and destroys everything, and yet what I’m seeing is that there couldn’t have been a wall of fire,” Cohen told Stephen Quinn, the host of CBC’s The Early Edition.

“The thing that would have carried the wall of fire is still there: The trees are still there and the structures are destroyed.”

Instead of a wall of flames descending, burning embers blow downwind and ignite many spot fires over a wide area.

“That’s how the whole area can be burning at the same time,” Cohen explained.

That’s also why, from the photos coming out of the damaged communities, it looks almost as though there were hundreds of individual house fires rather than one fire sweeping through the entire town.

  185. EOS
    Posted August 18, 2020 at 8:19 pm | Permalink

It must have taken time for the entire house to burn to nothing but ashes. This could not have swept through in an instant, but the dried wood frames of the houses were the tinder that would have burned the trees. The fire was hot enough and lingered long enough to melt metal, but only yellowed pine needles? Does that seem credible?

  186. Posted August 18, 2020 at 9:55 pm | Permalink

    Thank you, Anonymous!

That google search resulted in many articles written by reporters who quoted experts explaining as best as they could in lay terms why the fire burned the way it did. I find those experts to be credible.

Years ago, there was a chemical spill at the factory near my house. When I went outside in the morning all of the plants, including the trees, looked dead. I was pretty upset about it. When the fire department came to talk to me about it, and when I expressed my sadness about the trees, the firefighter told me that trees were remarkably resilient. He said he had seen a lot of trees that looked dead after being close to a house fire that bounced back. He said I should wait and see and they might be fine. He was right! All but one of the trees survived! Unfortunately, the one that died was a really beautiful maple that turned bright red in the fall. Also unfortunately it was on an abandoned lot so I couldn’t sue the factory to replace it. I suppose I could have written them a letter asking them to replace it out of the goodness of their hearts but I didn’t.

At any rate, I don’t think trees burn in the same way as houses.
