Today in Stupid America: Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert gets diagnosed with COVID-19, says he probably got it because he was wearing a mask

During our present pandemic, Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert, a diehard supporter of Donald Trump, has prided himself on not following public health guidance. And, not just that, but he’s known to have berated members of his staff for wearing masks in his office. Well, news broke today that Gohmert has COVID-19. And word has it that the Congressman, after finding out that he had the disease, returned to his D.C. office to inform his staff in person, putting them all at risk. And that itself would probably warrant a conversation here. But Gohmert, as he’s known to do, went one step further, telling a Texas reporter today that he likely contracted the disease not because of his time spent flaunting public health guideline, but because of the fact that he has, on occasion, worn a mask. That’s right, the Congressman is suggesting that mask wearing is likely responsible for his condition. Oh, and to cap it all off, he’s now saying that he’s going to take Trump’s advice and start taking hydroxychloroquine, the antimalarial drug that the FDA says is “unlikely to be effective in treating COVID-19,” to treat the disease.

[“I can’t help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, if I might have put some… of the virus on the mask and breathed it in,” Gohmert said.]

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, apparently intent on killing everyone in Congress, has responded by making mask-wearing mandatory, saying, “Any person not wearing a face cover will be asked to put on a face cover or leave the building.”

Oh, here’s one more thing to keep in mind. Back in February of this year, Donald Trump said the following of COVID-19. “You have 15 people,” he said, “and the 15, within a couple of days, is going to be down to close to zero.” Well, as of today, over 150,000 Americans have lost their lives to the disease. And the Republicans, who assailed Barack Obama for the two lives that we lost during the Ebola crisis, are still quiet.

I urge all Trump supporters to get all their medical advice from Trump. He’s a stable genius and dabbles in medical issues and research. He gets this stuff. A lot of the epidemiologists are surprised at how well he understands this stuff. If you get COVID-19, get on hydroxycloroquine immediately, and “hit the body” with bright light and disinfectant of some sort.

The mask is only effective if worn and handled properly. If worn while speaking or coughing, it reduces the number of and velocity of viral particles being spread and in that way protects others. But look at the Speaker in the video. She is wearing the mask as a fashion accessory around her neck. And instead of asking members to wear the mask when speaking, she says it’s ok to remove the mask when speaking.

She probably adjusted the microphone before she started speaking, her hands are touching the surface of the podium, and someone even hands her a piece of paper. Will she clean her hands before she touches her mask to put it back in place?

Once she puts it back on and wears it for awhile, it’s likely to become damp from her breath. The next time she takes it off to hang around her neck, it acts like a sponge to trap and catch any particles floating in the air. Good thing is that she probably can afford to use a new mask each day.

Not so with the people shopping at your local grocery store. They may be using the same mask for weeks. They might pick up a dozen items to put in their basket. Next, they are pulling down their mask to ask the clerk where some item is located. Then when they put the mask back in place, they touch it several times to adjust it. They use cash to pay for their purchases and put the change in their pocket. As soon as they step out of the store, they remove the mask and keep it hanging on their ear. When they get to their car, they throw it on the seat, or put it in their purse which is full of items that have been handled and contaminated.

I’m sorry, but the way most people wear and store their masks does make it more likely that it increases their chances of exposure.
Don’t touch your mask once you put it on unless you sanitize your hands first. Keep it in a plastic bag when you take it off. Wear a new mask daily. When you put it on, make sure it is fitted properly, with no gaps around the nose or chin. For even better protection, wear wrap around safety glasses in addition to a mask. Stay away from anyone not wearing a mask in public -6 feet is not enough – 20 feet is better. If you go to a restaurant or indoor office, stay closest to the air conditioning vents. Don’t eat a meal or work for long periods of time downwind from a group of people.

Would you want your surgeon to wear a mask during your operation that he had hanging on his neck while he visited other patients?

Sometimes I want to say to people like this, “How many of your own relatives have to die before you take this seriously?” I lost two relatives in April.
I also heard today that Gohmert mused that it may be possible that he got infected as a result of wearing a mask.

Any thing to keep the people from voting. In my weekly discussion with my hoosier family I was told how Marion County (Indianapolis) has reduced the number of polling places from 240 down to 28. In addition being in line to vote at the time the polls close will just be too bad so sad for those who didn’t get a ballot.

If I thought I was exposed to the virus, I would gargle with a viricidal mouthwash every hour or two. This might reduce the number of virus particles reaching the lungs, and might help reduce the severity of the disease. I would isolate my use of a toilet if possible. Make sure the seat was down before I flushed and taking extra care to wash my hands thoroughly. The fecal-oral route is a major source of spread.

It is not a smart idea to follow the advice of any politician – neither Trump nor Pelosi. Take the initiative to find out for yourself how to protect you and your family. It won’t help as you are suffering to point out that you were following his or her advice. But there is no need to panic. If you are under 60, and don’t have any existing conditions that make you more susceptible, you have more than a 99% chance of surviving.

Muslims have a heightened awareness of spiritual matters on holy days. I always pray that the Creator of the Universe reveals Himself through dreams or visions on these days. More Muslims have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior in the last 10 years than in the entire history of Islam. Tribes and nations is the terminology used in the Bible. Identity politics is a function of the Democrats: black/white, rich/poor, heterosexual/homo, owners/workers, religious/atheist, etc. It is a strategy co-opted from the Marxists.

In contrast, conservatism believes in the individual and the God given rights of each individual. Government is formed to protect the rights of the individual. The constitution limits the powers of government so that the individual maintains their freedom. Government do not grant rights to the individual and should not be able to abolish individual rights. You are free to pursue happiness in any manner you deem appropriate so long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights of others.

Again, for the tenth time, for a more apples to apples comparison you have to account for raw size differences AND differences in age demographics which make Florida more vulnerable. It is my contention that Florida will out perform Michigan because they did a better job protecting the most at risk elderly. Their cases are turning flattening out obviously. More death to come for FL. You guys act like you are genius for understanding that there is a lag between cases and future deaths. No shit Sherlocks.

Just to help you out. Michigan is about 6.5% younger than Florida using median age. Of course our 1-2% infection rate of school age children versus Floridas 25-35 % infection rate in that age group is going to create additionally lag time between children spreading it and its ultimate spread into vulnerable populations. Not sure how you plan on modeling that.

That is negated by the obvious seasonal, weather replayed, factors we’ve seen playing out. The entire southern half of the country is experiencing similar trends to what Florida is experiencing. There was a lag of a couple months between the surge in spread in the northern parts of the country and what we’re seeing now in the southern areas. This counters any suggestion that there was any equivalency between numbers in the north and numbers in the south.

Potential spread was not anywhere near as severe in southern states as it was in northern areas, generally. This is clearly a result of seasonal weather and it’s impact on human behavior.

Should I draw a conclusion? New York was losing 600+ a day! Florida was a tourist hub in the spring. We had one of 13 international airport hubs. Florida and MI are not big with public transport. FL has more black people. Sweden, Norway and Finland were using masks at similar rates. Lots of moving parts..

The foundational assumption you seem to lean on is that given a bit more time a state can sidestep the virus. What if that is not true? We can count on both hands the number of countries which have relatively great numbers with this.

Consult Florida’s test positive case curve. They have turned the corner. It is flattening like it did in every other hard place. If it follows everybody else’s curve case rate will peak soon then case rate will drop on the other side of the slope soon.

FF: “ All of the most hard hit areas are Dem run. Why?”

Because all the large metropolitan areas in the north are in states governed by the Democrats.

The large and densely populated urban areas in the north are always where viruses spread fastest and earliest.

FF: “The foundational assumption you seem to lean on is that given a bit more time a state can sidestep the virus. What if that is not true? We can count on both hands the number of countries which have relatively great numbers with this.”

Given a bit more time, a state can take steps to mitigate rapid and massive spread before it happens. There is no doubt it is slowed by early mitigation efforts. That’s evident in every place in the world where there was forewarning and mitigation action was taken before things got crazy.

Per capita deaths (per million population)

    Sweden: 568
    Norway: 47

Norway instituted mitigation action early with some forewarning. Sweden took what mitigation action they could while keeping businesses open.

    Norway’s forewarning certainly helped them.

Forewarning is only as valuable as leadership makes it. Brazil’s leadership obviously did nothing with their considerable forewarning.

The MSM tries to portray the US as being in the worst condition. But we are still in somewhat better shape than a number of European and South American countries.

They are finding the virus in stools months after “recovery”. We still do not know if exposure gives you any protection from reinfection. Good article on what we do know.

HW: “Yeah, it was mass hysteria as soon as possible for this hoaxy epidemic even when it was first “breaking out”. That’s right. You don’t seem to think things through very well, iDerp.”

The reason there was “mass hysteria” was because it was clear this virus was going to kill far more than H1N1 did. That was apparent from the beginning. The highly contagious nature the virus showed right away, coupled with the unusually high infection fatality rate, caused alarm in anyone who understood te obvious implications. But we had an idiot oresident and his slow followers calling it a hoax.

That is why the meme was moronic. Now even you should be able to see that.

Conspiracy theories are essentially irrefutable: logical contradictions, evidence showing the opposite, even the complete absence of proof have no bearing on the conspiratorial explanation because they can always be accounted for in terms of the conspiracy. The lack of proof about a plot, or any positive proof against its existence, is turned around and taken as evidence of the craftiness of the secret cabal behind the conspiracy. It is seen as confirmation of the conspirators’ ability to conceal their machinations.

It’s very likely that the particular type of test Dr.Lee studied, is not the most used type of test.

HW you are referencing a press release from a company that Dr. Lee has economic interests in promoting stating that their test is better than the CDC test. It has already been acknowledged by many sources, including the CDC, that the initial test kits from the CDC were flawed. Furthermore, the CDC test kits that were reissued are one of the last kits that labs that have access to multiple different testing kits choose to use because they are relatively inefficient by design because they have to be operable for state public health departments with limited investment in specialized higher volume testing resources. We have five to six different COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification testing pathways in our system alone, with the CDC issued kit being the one of last resort. A smaller hospital a rural area would have none of these, and would be sending their testing to either a commercial lab, which would not be using this test, or to their state health department which only has this test in house, unless they too send it out to a commercial lab through a contracting agreement.

If the tests are flawed then don’t treat the results as correct. Furthermore acknowledge the data compilation methodology includes all deaths of individuals with a positive result whether covid is the actual cause or not, inflating the number by design.

Our governor vetoed the bill to keep COVID patients out of nursing homes unless the home was dedicated to only COVID patients. The legislature passed it and she vetoed it. It’s not a conspiracy theory – she is deliberately endangering their lives. Why?

Well, most people live for only a year or two once they are put in a nursing home. If she can get COVID into the homes, then every subsequent death is attributed to COVID, whether or not they died from other causes. She is doubling the number of deaths attributed to COVID in our state. Her actions cause some to die prematurely – what does she care? Deliberately jacking up the numbers and the state gets money from the Federal government for each death.

She has to go. I signed a petition today to remove her power to arbitrarily issue decrees without allowing any input from others. There’s another petition to impeach her, but we’ll probably get to vote her out of office before either the petitions get through the courts.

Does Michigan report the number of nursing home deaths? Your link says it doesn’t. How many are actual and how many are probable? Why isn’t this data being released? The Washtenaw County Health Department told me that they were collecting the numbers but not reporting them. But they did tell me that nursing homes and group homes are the vast majority of COVID deaths in the county.

I have no doubt that COVID kills nor do I doubt that the Dems are exaggerating the threat to keep us isolated and fearful until after the election. Over a year ago, there were reports in the news that Trump would not leave office and that he would put us under martial law. It does seem coincidental that the virus, absentee voting for everyone, and violent demonstrations all seem to be leading to martial law and a fraudulent election result.

Maybe it’s Obama who hasn’t left office. Biden might pick Michelle as his running mate. Barack has been orchestrating the shadow government for the past 3 years and would be back in office via his wife once Biden admits to his dementia.

Mass indictments of Obama’s administration may occur but MSM will claim its political and not criminal.

Regardless of outcome, 50% of the population will not accept the election results. The Federal Reserve will allow the dollar to plummet. There will be civil unrest and widespread unemployment and homelessness. China might decide it is a good time to knock out our power grid. There could be mass starvation. And those who remain will be subject to a authoritarian government, because Progressives have had their plans at the ready for years, and won’t waste this crisis. However, they won’t be able to fight off the numbers of Chinese who would overflow the fledgling government and subject us all to their brutality.

Well this could happen but it may not. We could open our eyes to the forces trying to divide us. We could recognize the humanity of everybody and reject identity groups. We could refuse to play along with the cancel culture and instead develop a society that promotes the success of every individual. We could once again tolerate differences of opinion and maintain civil discourse. We could reject politicians who lie repeatedly and instead elect honest citizens who work for the betterment of everyone for a period of time and then return to their communities and allow other good-hearted persons to take their place.

If we want to maintain our freedoms and a limited ethical government, it has to change, and it needs to start with us. We don’t have much time left to turn the course of history to avoid destruction.

The GOP governs the state with the highest rate of long-term care deaths. Not surprisingly it’s a state with the vast majority of its population living in a major metropolitan area in the north. That’s because being a northern state with a large urban population which was hit early by the pandemic is a much more significant determining set of factors than which party governs the state.

Republican run states are currently climbing this list more than the states run by the Democratic Party. But that will change in a a couple months when autumn weather returns to the northern half of the country. Then we will see those states in the north, most being run by Democratic governors, surging again.

What I’ve posted above is data reported by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. They have a list on their site ranking the states by average number of deaths per 1,000 residents. I’ve added a (D) for states with Democratic Party governors and (R) for states with Republican Party governors. Please feel free to correct me on any mistakes I may have made in transposing the info.

Here again is a link to that site:

iRobert the important thing to remember with the death cult is; facts do not matter, but hate does. The Leader encapsulates their Hate for Americans. If Americans are defined as anything other than white christians we hate you. When Trump saw that it would mainly be mud people dying from the virus, he said let it go. MAGA

How is it that there are so many stupid people? I mean really, really, stupid people. How many times do they need to be told the same fucking obvious things before it gets through their thick skulls?

Why are there people who don’t realize their exhaled breath is largely moisture?
