American service members are assassinated in Afghanistan as part of Russian bounty program. Trump responds by inviting Putin to the White House, and fighting for his reinstatement into the G-7.

Earlier today, the President of the United States tweeted out a video in which one of his supporters, driving a golf cart decked out with “Trump 2020” and “America First” signs, yells out “white power” when confronted by protesters. Donald Trump has since removed the video in question, but not before referring to his supporters in the video as “great people.” Six years ago, this would have been an enormous scandal. Today, though, it didn’t even really make a blip on the radar. I’m temped to say that it’s because we’ve just grown numb to the racism. Maybe, however, it has something to do with the fact that we’re also processing the fact that our president might very well be a traitor.

As I suspect you know, news broke on Friday that U.S intelligence officials had concluded some time ago that a Russian military intelligence unit had offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for the killing of American soldiers in Afghanistan. Well, it came out today that the program had not only resulted in the deaths of American troops, but that, according to at least one U.S. official, the existence of this program had been included in the President’s Daily Brief, meaning that Donald Trump had known about it and yet had chosen to do nothing. Donald Trump, as you might expect, denies having been briefed. Interestingly, however, there’s also news today that a National Security Council interagency meeting had been held in March to discuss — in the words of the New York Times — “the intelligence assessment… and the White House’s inaction.” So, it would appear as though the President had been told, and had chosen to do nothing about it, alarming those on the National Security Council.

If it turns out to be true that the President of the United States knew that the Russians had been offering bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan early this year, it would certainly call into question his decision to lobby on Putin’s behalf in June for reinstatement into the G7. How could the President of the United States invite Putin to the United States, and demand that Russia be allowed back into the G7 (making it the G8 again), knowing that they were paying Taliban affiliated fighters in Afghanistan to kill Americans and their allies? But, is it rlly all that surprising? After all, we know that, after our intelligence officials unanimously confirmed that Russia had sought to influence our 2016 election by hacking the emails of Democratic Party leaders, Donald Trump continued to refer to the whole thing as a “hoax.”

Why is it, as Marcy Wheeler pointed out earlier today, that, when an Iranian-backed militia killed a single U.S. contractor, Donald Trump decided to retaliate by assassinating Iranian General Qassim Soleimani, but, in this instance, we saw no response at all when U.S. military personnel were assassinated? It does make one wonder. As Nancy Pelosi said today, “With him all roads lead to Putin. I don’t know what the Russians have on the President.” Clearly, however, they have something.

Oh, it’s probably also worth not in that, absent any evidence, Donald Trump accusing Barack Obama of treason a few days ago. #Projection

Aloha, the Leader is valiantly attempting to follow through on his promise to surrender/ withdraw from Afganistan. I think Juan Coles analysis is closer to the facts then the story from The NY Times stenographers. As Schumer famously said, you don’t want to pick a fight with the CIA they have a thousand ways to get back at you.

The troops in Afghanistan are socio-economic conscripts and should not be treated as chaff in a psychopaths treasonous game. They are not that different from our local wage slaves forced to risk catching and spreading covid in retail and restaurants. He should be hanged for treason, again.

So which is it: did he not know about it, and thus doesn’t know what’s going on under his own nose, or did he not believe what the troops said and sent up the chain of command to him?

    I’m not sure which one’s worse…..

Wobbly,. Would you prefer the military be endeared to agent orange or hostile to him? Keep it simple, stupid. And Mr Cole could have done that same thing and pared his column down to the single line; “…the entire scenario is baffling.”. The rest is extraneous noise to the central purpose of purging the ruskie stooge.

That giant trash heap you helped make called “Russian collusion”.

    1. There is no question that the Russians hacked the DNC and released the emails though Wikileaks to change the course of the election. There is no disagreement in the intelligence community. Zero.

    2. During the Russia investigation, Donald Trump and members of his administration, on several occasions, sought to either stop or discredit the inquiry. These instances of obstruction are outlined in detail in the Mueller report.

None of this is in dispute. The Russians interfered in our election and Donald Trump sought to stop the investigation into what happened. These are facts. While it’s true that “collusion” was not proven, in that we don’t have a recording of Trump asking Putin to steal the emails, the investigation was not a “hoax.” A foreign government sought to influence an election, and the President of the United States, for whatever reason, sought to stymie that investigation. There may be a “giant trash heap”, but it’s not where you think that it is.

Crowdstrike CEO Shaun Henry (any relation, Jean?): “We did not have concrete evidence data was exfiltrated from the DNC.”

Now call that cherrypicking and point out they claim there were indicators the DNC was being set up for a hack. The point still stands they did not have evidence of a hack. They have no evidence but the public believes the bogus “ICA” that relied on…Crowdstrike! Incredible. How do you go so far in the wrong direction without thinking about this shit?

“2. During the Russia investigation, Donald Trump and members of his administration, on several occasions, sought to either stop or discredit the inquiry. These instances of obstruction are outlined in detail in the Mueller report.”

Only problem is even biased Mueller and team could not identify a case where those “instances” added up to shit. It was extremely biased for sure: they knew immediately the dossier was garbage but still dragged out the Trump-hampering exercise for years.

The intel agencies knew it too. Didn’t you know there are all kinds of documents finally coming out about it now? Subpoenas are flying…Kinda looks like all the people I said were fucked are…fucked.

Trump could have stopped it by firing Mueller at any time but didn’t. It went on and on and on with no interference by the administration even though they knew from the start the dirty dossier was garbage.

I’d say if anything is indisputable it’s that Trump has been extraordinarily transparent. Millions of documents? How many hours of testimony? No interference, no obstruction. No anything they could nail him on and they would use anything they possibly could drum up it’s clear.

Putin would like me to put a nail in this agit-prop.

Two months after top Pentagon officials vowed to get to the bottom of whether the Russian government bribed the Taliban to kill American service members, the commander of troops in the region says a detailed review of all available intelligence has not been able to corroborate the existence of such a program.
“It just has not been proved to a level of certainty that satisfies me,” Gen. Frank McKenzie, commander of the U.S. Central Command, told NBC News. McKenzie oversees U.S. troops in Afghanistan
