It’s a “great day” for George Floyd

I’m having a hard time staying awake, so this is going to short… But I wanted to let you know, in case you hadn’t already heard, that today was a “great day” for George Floyd, the man whose recent murder at the hands of Minneapolis police officers set off mass protests across the nation.

“You all saw what happened last week. We can’t let that happen,” Donald Trump said today, in a desperate attempt to sound presidential after a week of mostly cowering in his bunker and hate tweeting. Unfortunately, however, he then felt the need to continue. “Hopefully,” the President added, “George is looking down right now and saying this is a great thing happening for our country. A great day for him, a great day for everybody. This is great day for everybody. This is a great, great day in terms of the equality.”

In related news, this past Wednesday the most viewed post on Facebook was a video of Candace Owens, in which the outspoken Trump supporter referred to George Floyd as a “horrible human being,” before going on to add that “racially motivated police brutality is a myth.” The following day, Owens was invited to the White House to engage in a conversation about “how we can move our Nation forward in the wake of the tragic death of George Floyd and the protests and rioting that have ensued.” [That’s a quote from Vice President Mike Pence about the event.] And, that same day, the Trump 2020 committee sent out the following appeal to donors — one which refers to those protesting Floyd’s murder as a “liberal mob,” and calls on conservatives to join the “army” opposing them… So, no, I don’t think it’s very likely that “George is looking down right now and saying this is a great thing happening for our country.”

Donald Trump is in full-manic mode. He tweeted 200 times today. Dude is losing his fucking mind.

Good time to remind people that Russia is promoting christo fascism globally. Just like they did with helping our racist treasonous militia flaunting GOP.

I think it is highly irresponsible to take Trump’s words out of context to make him look as bad as possible given the circumstances. Trump is not good at communicating emotional stuff. He just isn’t. But if you include a few sentences prior what he said looks not as bad. Why try to take lines from a not so great speech and show them in the worst possible light? Answer: Because you are more concerned with your self interests than the possible consequences of your act on others.

So why not post those words if the context changes the meaning of the sound bite?

@FF – Because listening to the rest of it doesn’t change the fact that it’s clear he is more concerned about the jobs report than anything else. Why? Because he will take credit for it. And the way he brought up George Floyd. I’m rarely shocked by him, but even that dropped my jaw. His narcissistic tone deafness has no bottom.

Maybe Trump was suggesting dead people, in general, are better off. He’d probably be right about that. After all, the living are living in a country which has Trump as President.

I brought up Candace Owens to someone and they directed me to the following Facebook post of Raquita Henderson. I thought that you might find it of interest.

Someone asked me to give my opinion on Candance Owens.

The easy out is to use all the pejoratives that folks do when a black person decides there is no I in team and decides they are every man for themselves. But like I mentioned, disliking her because she’s wrong isn’t a reason to call her names.

Honestly, I think the same thing I always think when I hear black folks who have latched so hard on to whiteness they saw an opportunity and created some boot strapping success from it. Nothing wrong with it. I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes, white women too. Privilege via proximity to cis male whiteness is a helluva drug

Sometimes rare times I think what they really want is to be able to say hey black folks, I don’t know how to get your attention. i am hurt and I don’t know how to heal it. I’m angry and I don’t know who to take it out on. but that’s my soft heart talking..

But mostly I think she decided to profit of white people who like having a black person to prop up when they are cornered into the idea that their “opinions” are racist and non-christian. When a member of the people you’ve oppressed cosign it hits different I know, but it doesn’t make them – the black person or the folks who need a black body for cover – right. To me it just makes the both sad, sad people. Cause Owens is probably whip-smart, and this is an awful way to waste it.

The stock market tanked again on Thursday. That was not a good day for George Floyd.
