Two tweets from October 25 perfectly illustrate the difference between Joe Biden and Donald Trump

As I invested way too much time yesterday writing about Trump’s budding jihad against Twitter, I’ve decided that, tonight, I’d like to focus elsewhere. So, as much as I’d like to write about our president’s toothless retaliatory attack against the social media company that had the audacity to fact-check him, and his growing fondness for the platform of the evil bootlicking Mark Zuckerberg, I’m just going to pass along the following two Twitter posts from October 25, 2019. One was posted by Donald Trump. The other was posted by Joe Biden. And, taken side by side, I think they illustrate just how stark the contrast is between the two men, their priorities, and how the view the job of president. As much as I liked the Mourning in America campaign put out by the Lincoln Project a few weeks ago, this, in my opinion, is far more devastating.

One more thing. Today, with 103,330 Americans lying dead, Donald Trump tweeted a video that began, “The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.” That is not leadership. That is fucking insanity. We can, and must, do better, America.

“When someone tells you who they are, believe them”… Maya Angelou would be gunned up at this point.

His threats of violence are too extensive not to take seriously. I’m sure there are Generals lined up for an effective institutional response. I know first hand that a lot of highly skilled rank and file deep state are ready to protect The Constitution by any means necessary. In his last throws of criminal desperation, he will throw his followers into the line of fire and they will be the ones to pay the dearest price.

The problem is “… ready to protect The Constitution by any means necessary” means very different things to different people.

For everyone who believes this means standing up for civil rights, democracy, and the rule of law – there are plenty who instead believe this stands for maintaining “order,” crushing dissent, and defending plutocracy.

There is nothing unconstitutional about the current public health response here in Michigan. There isn’t martial law. There are just perfectly legal executive orders. This isn’t the first time quarantine measures have needed to be put in place and these issues have already been through the courts. Sorry HW, those of us who understand the US Constitution better than you will continue to invoke it as we see fit.

However, Demetrius is correct in that people all have their own interpretations of it. That is why we have courts. And it is ok, too, to have an opinion about what it means that is different than the opinion of what the court says but if you are going to proclaim something unconstitutional, it doesn’t mean anything unless the courts agree. e.g. My opinion is that the “well-regulated militia” part of the second amendment means that guns can be entirely banned for individuals. The courts however have established that it does protect an individual’s right to have a gun.

I acknowledge that it is HW’s opinion that the quarantine is unconstitutional but I also don’t care since the courts have determined that it is. That is what matters.

Aloha, out of control police violence is every where and folks are sick of putting up with it. If lawless cops protect other lawless cops, then burning the cop house down seems appropriate. It is clearly only the prospect of citizen action which caused the Georgia State Police to arrest the three murders in Georgia. It was only the action of citizens which caused Minneapolis to place the officers on “administrative leave”. The citizen actions in Minneapolis will stop once the officers are arrested for manslaughter or some such crime.

I see they have now –finally arrested one of the murderers.

It really always cracks me up what white men view as oppression. If you were treated even a little bit the way black men are treated in this country, you would not be able to handle it.

I don’t condone violence but at the same time, I cannot really bring myself to be overly critical when oppressed people find their frustration turning into rage like that. George Floyd was murdered by a police officer, in slow motion, in broad daylight, in front of multiple witnesses, while being recorded. Floyd’s alleged crime? Passing a counterfeit $20 bill.

Recognizing the legitimacy of peoples’ anger and pain (and fear) isn’t the same as condoning rioting or looting – but in so many of these cases, peaceful calls for reform, for justice, have been ignored again and again.

So, what ARE people supposed to do when they feel they have no peaceful recourse?

I don’t know. It makes me mad too. I don’t assume it’s not manufactured to precipitate riots though. To kill a strong man with a knee on the neck doesn’t seem that easy. I have never heard of something like that. I think you would see a lot more accidental deaths in streetfights if it was that easy. I’m not “claiming” it’s set up or fake or a hoax. It certainly is possible though.

Organize boycotts and civil disobedience which impact the finances of the wealthy and powerful. It’s the most effective means in getting actual change.

I somewhat agree. In the long run, rioting and looting tends to harm the very neighborhoods, and people, where such grievances are meant to be addressed – for example, by driving away investments that provide opportunities for jobs, and the availability basic goods, like groceries.

Again, I’m not condoning these actions, merely saying I can understand how such anger can drive some people to participate in such desperate measures.

The curves are bell shaped on the left, but a slow decline to the right, and more of a line than a curve.

The lag in impact and seasonal decline are giving people a false sense of this thing being under control. It isn’t at all.

By the way, we are still having a few days each week with more than 1,000 deaths in the US. Usually two or three days per week.

We will soon see if reopening in the earliest and hardest hit cities is going to level off that decline in daily deaths or even begin to bring that upward curve again. I predict a slight curve upward soon. I expect a dramatic and devastating wave in autumn, depending on when the cooler weather hits us.

Trump virus spreads among new population for a week to ten days before first symptomatic cases occur. Rapid onset of cases as previously infected begin having symptoms. It seems entirely possible the virus was in Wayne county early and it just manifested itself many weeks later amongst the people who are most susceptible. Aloha it seems that right wing agents are out in force. Attempts to provoke violence are occurring at an accelerating rate. First there were obvious provocateurs provoking the violence in Minneapolis. Many locals belief they were Proud Boys and off duty cops out to discredit the protesters. Then some body in an SUV tries to mow down a group of protesters in San Jose, two were hit. Then somebody in an SUV starts shooting into protesters in Detroit killing one. Then somebody in an SUV shoots and kills two Federal contract Agents in San Francisco.

The fascist right knows they will loose the election in November. Democratic office holders need to hold the thugs to account. This country has had right wing death squads in the past. Let me know when you want your errors corrected, no problem.
