Donald Trump says on Fox News that he’ll be cutting Medicare and Social Security

At a Fox News town hall this evening, Donald Trump, who announce during the last State of the Union that he would “always protect” the Medicare and Social Security of Americans, once again admitted publicly that his administration would be “cutting” social safety net programs like Medicare and Social Security. Please do me a favor and tie a string around your finger so that you remember this when you’re voting on Election Day, OK?

Speaking of Donald Trump, he also said on Fox News yesterday that some people with COVID-19 feel good enough to go to work, improve quickly, etc. After the fact, when people expressed outrage that the president was suggesting that infected people might be OK in the workplace, he responded by calling it “fake news” and “disinformation put out by the Democrats”. It wasn’t. Here’s the audio.

I’d like to say more, but I hear there’s a new show about killing Nazis on TV.

Anyway there is a ton of Medicare fraud you ought to acknowledge, Barky. It’s not just more Medicare good, less Medicare bad.

There is a ton of theft from retail establishments. To reduce that, we should close more stores.

There is a ton of cheating on the SAT. To reduce that, we should close more schools.

There is a ton of embezzling occurring through the mail. To reduce that, we should close more post offices.

But I’m not saying shut the store down. I’m saying stop the theft. Install security features. Protect against fraud.

I think if a few right-wing domineering people dropped out and many of us who go up against them as we can just stopped, maybe this space would repopulate with sincere interesting and informed opinions from a variety of perspectives. I’ve been thinking a lot about how trolls main power derives from being domineering. And that the rest of us key into that when we respond in any way. And of course any response is not enough for them They crave negative attention. I admit I am the worst at this. But I think it’s a waste of time. I wish this place could return to a space where one or two people weren;t sucking all the air out of the room.

There’s a lot of work to be done and we have two very flawed and mediocre candidates to support and bolster. Maybe we could to start our path to ending the national nightmare by ending the MM comments section nightmare.

    No kit.

Trump did not say he was going to cut Medicare or Social Security. Watch the video.

Trump did not say it is “ok to go to work” if you are infected. The context of his statement was tbat many people will not be counted as having Coronavirus because they experience mild symptoms, do not get tested, and go about their lives without knowing they have the virus. I have heard experts say the same thing in terms of the difficulty of calculating fatality rates…Watch the video.

I think it is interesting that so many on the right have trouble with abstractions. They will not believe that there could be cuts until there are actually cuts to things like Social Security.

  18. EOS
    Posted March 6, 2020 at 10:06 am | Permalink

I think it would be far better if those who constantly go against other posters would be the ones who dropped out and left others who wish to discuss the concepts and issues to continue.

Thinking in abstractions untethered from the concrete is not something to be proud of. It is taking the amazingly easy route and it rarely leads toward truth.

Most likely we won’t need as much medicare when revenue from the trade deals greatly improves the already good economy as he mentioned. If the fraud was eliminated that would amount to a massive cut I’m sure.

    Jean,

Don’t you have a lot of “bolstering”work you need to do for your “mediocre and flawed” candidates?

As bad as things feel now, know that this is the best it is going to feel for a long time. As far as you can see into the future, right now, is as good as it gets. Search your feelings. You know it is true.

Sane people in your position might want to consider whether or not they should abandon their flawed approach TO ALMOST EVERYTHING.

But you don’t get any reward for all of your attempts at being cute. The phrase “most worried” was used in relation to the forum posting policies. But you knew that. What you don’t know is: You don’t look cute or clever when you say stuff like that.

    Anonymous,

May I ask what has been your intent in this thread?

Start at the beginning: To me it appeared that you tried to use analogy to mock HW in a “cute” way, The only problem is your “analogy” was actually a disanalogy because you mis-interpreted HW. HW quickly pointed it out to you but you but you failed to answer his clear and valid objection. What was the intent there? Come on. We will hold hands and I will walk you through your very odd contribution to this thread.

When your “cute” little arguments rely on your own misinterpretations and misassumptions your arguments really aren’t cute are they?

How is it not treason to break laws to try to overthrow the President? Russia collusion was complete bullshit. What it turned out to be based on is hilarious: some Russian talking in a bar (for financial reward perhaps?) about things he did not even think would be taken seriously. You better hope it was not in coordination with a foreign interest. Then it’s textbook constitutional treason.

    HW,

Do you mean Steele’s source, who the fbi described as credible to the FISA courts; but left out the fact that their assessment of him as credibile as a person was based upon not the credibility of the dossier; rather his credibility was based upon his honest and truthful explanations, to the FBI, that the **dossier itself was not credible** because he truthfully admitted that the info he gave Steele was not credible and/or it was distorted by Steele in his opinion? That guy?

I used to play ice hockey in a men’s league, but it got too serious to risk injury for competitive purposes. Then I played for fun with a group of friends on a regular ice time, but then I got too old to risk injury. Now I run, swim, and do resistance training on my own schedule. I wonder what everybody else does to try to maintain their health? Maybe Mark could open a post about personal health and self-care?
