Donald Trump wants Congressman Adam Schiff investigated for treason

Just when you thought things couldn’t possibly get any more crazy…

Admittedly, I don’t know a lot about the inner workings of our nation’s big political parties, but it seems to me that when the President of the United States begins alluding to putting his perceived adversaries to death, his party should probably at least consider cutting ties, right? Or is conventional wisdom that it’s OK, up until they point when the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is actually being led to the electric chair?

As for the whistleblower representing the President’s conversation in “a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way,” have you all read both the whistleblower’s complaint and the White House summary of the call in question? The two documents are nearly indistinguishable from one another. There is, quite literally, no room between them. I know the President’s supporters on the right are making a big deal of the fact that the whistleblower didn’t witness the crime himself, but he nailed every single fucking point, which pretty much proves to me that his half-dozen or so sources were solid.

And, as for Schiff, what did he do but call an investigation into a matter that a Trump appointee (the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community) found to be both “urgent” and “credible”a matter which Trump’s Director of National Intelligence said was worthy of investigation?

The whistleblower, by the way, is absolutely right to have entered protective custody. Donald Trump is going to get someone killed with his increasingly violent rhetoric… We are entering a very dangerous time in American history… Donald Trump will not leave the White House without a fight. He doesn’t care about preserving American institutions. He doesn’t care about civil war. He only cares about himself, and he will do whatever it takes in order to avoid prosecution. And American citizens are going to pay with their lives.

Shame on every Republican who has refused to speak up and do the right thing. May god take mercy on their souls.

I just thought of a great reality show for Trump to do after he’s done making America great again. The show would be similar to The Apprentice except Trump would be trying to figure out which of his chosen participants were leaking information. Instead of telling people “You’re fired!” he could call them a traitor and they’d be led out to the parking lot and executed. This could be the greatest idea ever. It would be huge…so beautiful.

Seems to lend weight to what I’ve been saying for years, huh? People like Liddle Adam are going to bite it for treason. I think misrepresenting the President is the least of Adam’s problems. This statement by the President is to get people used to the idea of someone like The Pencilneck being investigated for treason. How could it be that your perceived reality is aligning more and more with what you tripped out on me for telling you in the past?

“And, as for Schiff, what did he do but call an investigation into a matter…”–Mark

Schiff intentionally misrepresented what was in the transcripts to the American people. It is very snake-like to always slither around the truth.

Hopefully Schiff has learned his lesson and will refrain from attempting any more “parody” in this process. Congressional hearings are no place for an amateur to practice his comedy routine. That’s what comment sections on blogs like this one are for.

Can someone please tell me what this refers to specifically? What did Schiff say that wasn’t true? I’m honestly not following the argument here.

    Please provide quotes.

As Republicans have (so far) shown no willingness to break from Trump, it’s worth considering how much worse things could get under Trump if he continues to have this kind of firewall of propaganda and defense from the right, no matter what he does.

Consider the shifting of norms of the presidency from ’17 to ’19. Trump attacked his own State Dept and IC, turned the Justice Dept into his private law firm, used State and DoJ to go after his political opponents, and shifted US foreign policy to acting on behalf of dictators

He has also stonewalled Congress, ignored laws they passed, threatened violence against his opponents (with real consequences), politicized the US military, and increasingly surrounded himself with compliant yes men.

The “collusion” with a foreign power to undermine our democracy that was at issue in the Russia investigation is now out in the open for all to see in a call transcript with the President of Ukraine and the whistle blower complaint.

To obstruct any investigation into that collusion, he sought to use the classification system of the U.S. government to hide his criminal behavior.

We also know that calls with leaders like Putin and MBS – the two most likely other supporters of his reelection from abroad – were similarly hidden, hinting at the scale of corruption that we don’t know about.

If this corrupt and criminal behavior is protected by a major American political party, we are in entirely new territory as a country, with unforeseen consequences that are likely all negative.

    Kit,

Schiff claimed that Trump “essentially” said: “I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent, lots of it.”

Now compare Schiff’s claim to the actual transcript. Did Schiff misrepresent? Yes or no?

Later Schiff said it was parody but and his misrepresentment (my words) was how Trump’s words were actually RECIEVED by the Ukraine president. However, the Ukraine president made a statement that he felt no pressure (“push”) from Trump. Despite what Ukraine president said Schiff pretends to know how the Ukrainian president RECIEVED the conversation from Trump.

Is Schiff in a better position to know how words are RECIEVED by somebody else? Yes or no?

Why does Mark, Schiff and most everyone leave out the fact that Trump first connected the idea of “favor” with the idea that there might be some things that need to be investigated around “crowdstrike” in connection to campaign interference of 2016? Did you people not notice HW pointed out that there is a treaty to cooperate in investigations between USA and Ukraine?

It is one thing to think what Trump did was wrong. It is another thing to refuse to incorporate facts in that judgment…Why are so many people so snake-like in their analysis? Why?

Washington Post: Trump threatened ‘civil war.’ He’s cornered — and panicking about it.

    Greg Sargent – Opinion writer – September 30, 2019 at 10:12 a.m. EDT

President Trump has now approvingly quoted a top supporter raising the prospect of “civil war.” He accused unnamed national security officials in his own government of “spying” on him. He just called for a top Democrat in Congress to be arrested for “treason.”

And that was all in the last 24 hours.

All of this has many observers warning that Trump is lurching in an increasingly authoritarian direction, as the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry ratchets up.

But all of this is better seen as an expression of deep panic and self-incrimination — not just because the latest revelations have Trump on the defensive but also because of a meaningful shift in the power dynamics shaping the standoff between the White House and Democrats. …

Classic Fake John Brown. He sees the potential for extreme divisiveness which might actually turn into widespread violence (even war) as some kind of vindication of the highly irresponsible position he has taken for the last few years. He is trying to toot his own horn by asking a meant-to-be rhetorical question:

“Who could have possibly seen this coming?”—Fake John Brown

Answer: Gee, I don’t know, perhaps the people, exactly like you, who purposefully instigate civil war by pedaling lies, handed to them by sell outs, who want to nullify democratic processes, so they can get power back, without any regard for those processes or things like the truth. Do you know any irresponsible folks like that Fake John Brown?

Alright. Thank you. I think I understand now. You’re not talking about the indisputable facts. You’re objecting to Schiff’s rhetorical approach, where he put himself into the headspace of Trump and simplified what happened by putting it into the vernacular of the mob boss. What was that, maybe 40 seconds out of an 8 hour hearing? I’ll agree that it wasn’t helpful, but it’s hardly something anyone would be executed over.

  22. Frosted Flakes
    Posted September 30, 2019 at 4:27 pm | Permalink

It was the first few moments of the hearing when he was attempting to express the essence of what happened. He apologized not for saying trump asked for Ukrainian Prez to “makeup dirt”. He apologized for accusing Trump of asking 7 times for something Trump did not ask for even once. Do you see the trick there?

Also, the lie and the mob boss characterization helped push forward the narrative that is being repeated today by many including Mark, etc… DD just talked about Giuliani being sent to dig up dirt? Where did that idea come from? A request to “make up dirt” on Biden is either in the transcript or isn’t. It isn’t. True or false?

Aloha FF, I alluded to normal defense attorney practices. Since Rudi was being asked to meet with the Ukrainian President, and Rudi has no government role, it is logical to assume that Rudi was meeting as Trump’s personal defense attorney. Rudi now denies that he was being asked to act in any of this as an attorney–what was Rudi’s role? He is an employee of Trump’s. Not the President–I know you want to ignore all of the self-dealing by your Leader, just like EOS must ignore the amorality of his conduct.

It was the interconnections between CREEP and the Administration that caused Nixon’s obstruction of justice involving Watergate to finally come out. This is what self-dealing is all about.

    Jean,

You would be surprised to hear how little info I get from right wing news sources especially when I first hear about a story. I usually try to look at primary sources first. For example in this case I first read Mark’s post about the whistle blower; I then read the transcript; I then watched the actual hearing and Schiff’s opening statements live; I then read the whistleblower complaint; I then read a few more Mark’s narrative building posts. Almost all of my criticism grew out of my initial reaction to primary sources without additional input from either side.

I don’t think there is anything honest about the approach taken by most of the people here. I think Mark gets handed stories and he repeats them. I think the rest of you and mm.com average democrat clan are addicted to shallow Twitter propaganda. My evidence is that nobody here ever confronts anything of substance that does not fit their narrative.

Schiff’s lying should not go unpunished. In isolation, Schiff’s most recent lies do not rise to treason, obviously. Trump was being irresponsible here. However, if it could be proved that Schiff has been aiding in the systematic attempts to undermine/ overthrow the government then that is pretty serious and requires severe punishment. Treason in US is narrowly defined…Remember when Schiff claimed he has seen evidence of collusion? Where is it? Was that a lie too? A lie toward what end?
